my parents belong to the wholesale club Costco, and we havent paid msrp for like yrs. just ask if they deal with any wholesale clubs if they do, then you can prolly get it for like $300 under MSRP (i think that is what i got) i got my lancer when they first came out so i got OZ, man, spoiler, for like $15,000 look into that it can save you some money.

what is CSI?

k keep the info rolling in, i am gonna ask how much for each of the options.

Customer Satisfaction Index. It's the survey J.D. Power sends out to all new car buyers. These survey's rule the industry now. $200 over and all 10's on the survey should be a deal they would be happy to jump on.

$200 over is a pretty much a Costco deal. I'm the Costco rep for my store and those buyers get $100 over - no haggling.

I totally agree! man, the only options i could choose from was a spoiler, lug locks. i never had the option of an alarm and two tone seating/leather whatever. **** i had to buy my alarm from best buy and the little punks didn't even know how to install it on my car because mine was the first lancer they dealt with and they didn't know which wires were which lolz. i should've waited, but no, i just had to be the first to get it hahah dammit

Best advice: argue with the salesman from invoice price, up. MSRP itself is still mostly a rip off. Anyone paying 18 for a Lancer got hosed! Yikes!

18,300 total including ttl
03 OZ spoiler, snowboard roof rack, wheel locks, scuff plates, . i kinda got into an arguement with the salesmen, then when the deal was done and i was leaving. he said when i filled out the survey and brought it in for them to send out, that he would give me a free tank of gas. i think he want to change my answere or something, i was still gunna give em 10s

I went by for a service the other day and I noticed the MSRP on the 03 Lancers is like 150-200 over what the 02's were. See if they have any 02's on the lot first. I got mine for like 16500 and then I did I dumb thing like adding an extended warranty for 800. I think I had like 17900 including tax on everything.

Peace

In a $16k product with a $700 profit margin where exactly is the line between a good deal and getting ripped off?

How about not avoiding my question, which I asked in all seriousnesss. What is the definition of a "good deal" and what is the definition of "getting screwed"? Obviously you must know or you wouldn't have posted a reply of any kind.

getting screwed, i guess if you wanna boil it down, is paying $700 more than you have to. and actually, $18,000 is more than a thousand dollars TOTAL after taxes and charges than i paid for mine, and i would say that i didn't get that great a deal, more like i paid a fair price. so if paying $1000 more than a fair price isn't getting ripped, i don't know what is.

the lancer is not a $16,000 car. check your invoice prices. the OZ invoices for around $14,900. there's about an $800 markup to get the MSRP. paying over MSRP is getting burnt in any case of buying a car.

I look at the invoices every day, the real invoices which include things like the Dealer Association Fee that the internet sources don't list. I know exactly what the profit margin is on every Lancer combination, far better than you. What I'm getting from you is that you regard a 5% profit margin as unfair.

Too bad you don't have a clue how screwed you are on everything else you buy, but then, since you can't go on the internet and see the invoice for anything else, it doesn't really matter.

i got mine for 16,150 before taxes and everything. m.s.r.p. on the window was 16,550. i went and checked the price on a 2003 and they jacked the price up above 17,000 and its the same exact car.

Pricing on 03' models did not go up anything like that much. For example, the 03' OZ Rally with manual tranny and rear spoiler has an MSRP of $16,667 vs. the same car in 02' which was $16,502, IIRC (damn, I'm at home and I can still remember this stuff). $25 of that came with an increase in destination charge just after the 03's started to arrive. Did you notice if the 03' you looked at had a hole in the roof, because that's the only way you get up over $17k on the O.Z.
