420a swap?

Is it possible to swap the non-turbo eclipse engine (420A) into a 2003 lancer OZ rally?

possible sure.....hard...YES absolutely.....everything is on the wrong side on the 420a engine....

if you were looking for an engine to swap in the 4g64 form the newer eclipse would be one of the best choices

While the 420A from the 2G non turbos is an excellent motor, especially when built (look at those neons, and the fastest FWD eclipses are actually 420A's not 4G63's), I believe they are backwards for the Lancer making it very expensive and difficult to install.

Yeah, I have heard about a lancer with a v6 and even v6 twin turbo something like that. But don't ask me where because I didn't believe it.

How hard would it be to install price wise and mod wise?

3g eclipses...00+ your best bet to be smog legal would be to put in an 03-04 4g64 from the same year eclipse so that its somewhat legal...

costs:

engine: 6-800
tranny should bolt...
ecu is said to work but i would get one just in case--2-300
custom axels -i dont know costs on this
modify the exhaust piping....1-200

Sorry, I couldnt tell you the cost. I dont own a lancer, just an Evo and a few Eclipses so I've never really done any research on the subject. I do know that the 420A is a nice motor because I've raced quite a few of them in my years with my GSX and they can be wicked fast, especially on the highway.

i personally dont think the ocst of putting the 420a would be worth it...i mean for that price of modifying it all your better off trying to pull a 4g63 swap...which had been discussed here a million times, and so far i dont know of anyone who had been succesfull...

Eww.. 420a.. *shutters*
I had that engine in my Talon I did an Eclipse conversion on. I really didn't like that engine. I mean, it was ok, but the timing belts were terrible on those things. Even when they were replaced the engine was so sensitive and most of my buddies cars had the timing belt still mess up and ruin the engine. Personally, mine never did that, but that transmission in the automatic (and even the manual) was very weak.
As for being on the wrong side, it looks like the setup is the same as the lancer to me.. here is a pic of my old car.
