Thanks for looking out for me.. But seriously I only had to pay 13.99 and I get a t-shirt.. If I don't get any actual parts from them its not really a big deal because I didn't have a huge "processing" fee. They told me about their past dealings with a company called Racer X and stated that the company was horrible and ripped a lot of people off.. They bought out Racer X and are trying to rebuild the company. They were really honest about the companies previous behavior and I figured it wouldn't hurt to give them 13.99 for a t-shirt just to see if I actually get that.. Worth a shot right?

This board is getting awesome. People are starting to look out for one another and to be honest I really appreciate it. I like how everyone jumped on this and was like NOOOO. If It works out for me then great, if it doesn't, its 13.99. I really appreciate you guys helping me out. I"m still kinda new to the scene. Nice to know there are some good people on here.

run a search on racex motorsports an SCP....i tried to warn a ugy uesterday but he didnt seem to care....why bother if people are already telling you otherwise?....

i mean, after boe and a few people blew their motor up using nos...people didnt go that route, because of past experiences, what makes this different?

Well, being your pre-law, then you must be familiar with "Caveat Emptor"

If you want sponsorships, you need to deal directly with some of the product manufacturers.. most of these deals are just discount reseller outfits and their pricing on some items is good (lost leaders) but most everything else is at least the same or slightly more than what everyone else is selling their parts for.

When dealing with items like hoods and body kits, watch out for the $300+ shipping charges which makes a $150 item cost much more.

Also watch out for membership fees, communication fees, or even items like those record clubs where you get "The product of the month" to "Test out" but you have to pay for it.

I have a hard time believing this company is legit, I have dealt with sponsors before, and the only way to secure sponsorship is to have a car thats pressworthy, you already have built cars and have an established reputation, or you have a working relationship with the company and they trust your opinions and judgement... But basically sponsors want to sponsor you because people will see your projects and say "wow, I want one of those" The only way to do that is to build your first major project on your own dime and promote the hell out of it, or get a reputation for it by winning shows and whoring the car out to magazines and getting some coverage.

Fortunately, if the only thing you've spent is for a T-Shirt, then your Ok.. I'm certain they probably encouraged you to pick up this T-Shirt while you set up your "Premium account" or whatever their calling it.

A good guideline is manufacturers of parts are more likely to sponsor cars, catalog outfits (resellers) don't generally have the margin to give away parts or money.

actually they didn't push any purchase on me. I asked if I got a shirt and they said yes, and I asked if I could pick up another and they said sure. 13.99 Its worth the risk of 13.99 to see if the company turns out to me legit for its reputation's sake and maybe some new comers can get a little bit of help. Even if they save me 20.00 here and there If i purchase 1 item and save 20.00 by god i paid for my shirt. Thats the way I look at it. 13.99 is less than 2 hours work for me. I'll give up 2 hours of pay to see if I can actually get a little help in the car world? Worth the 13.99 for me just to find out. If they pushed anything on me I would've said no way. And legally they can't charge you for anything unless you accept their contract and become sponsored. I'm gonna have a professor look over the contract and see any holes, but told me they wouldn't charge me for the 13.99 shirt until I got it and If i declined the contract that I would just send everything back and they would refund me my 13.99 shirt or I could keep it if I wanted, but they would rather me send it back in the event I did something crazy wearing their shirt it wouldn't look bad on their company. They aren't scamming me. I can assure you that. I know all the legalities on this matter and they WILL NOT get my money (no matter how small) until I'm sure its legit.

I didn't pay 80.00 though. So i'm still good at the moment! We can only see. Maybe they are trying to turn the once broken company around. We must approach this with an open mind and with someone (me) that doesn't have much money (22.99, well 13.99 at the moment) invested. I honestly will not be pissed at all. IF i get scammed I'm not out much, and I will and the rest of the board will learn something from this and we will truly know to stay away from them.. Only time will tell.

I've never liked sponsorships much anyway, at least, not the ones I've been around... there's a few local shops here who have done different work on my car... and the car stereo one wants me to be in a show or two at their booth with them... sponsorship non-existant, however i got about half the money shaved off of what i bought without agreeing to any "contract"
Sponsorships make you do things to get discounts, this gave me a discount and I choose to do things for it because the guy and I are friends now.

Ya know, Granted you guys probably are right, everyone is entitled to a chance and even a second chance. Its 22.99 total, what can it hurt? Scam or no scam, i'm going to try to remain open minded about this. I'll keep ya posted.. (with pics)
