2004 Lancer press release, pics, and now, TEST DRIVE!
It is funny 'cos, when we all saw a few spy pictures of the new Galant at our dealership, we all liked it, but everybody said "Oh it looks kinda like a..." And you could fill in the blank with a dozen cars. Altima, Camry, Maxima, Mercedes, BMW - the list would grow and grow everytime somebody else saw it. Which leads me to believe it is pretty unique, I mean, there should kind of be a consensus of what it looks like if it is copy of something else right?
Same thing here, most people hate this car, but yet we hear, Prelude, Sunfire, Chevy, Mercedes, Echo, Hyundai and so on. So it must have some unique qualities of its own, maybe that character will appear after it has been around for a while.
Still, how many ways can you draw a two piece grill and headlights these days? Its hard to have a totally unique look without looking similar to something else, especially if it is to be functional and feasible for mass production. People used to say that Pontiac was biting of BMW's style with the twin grill. This isn't anything new. Mitsubishi has had the twin grill way back with the first Diamantes and Galants, it just wasn't as prominate as now, but if you look closely you will see it. I don't see how this shape could have been integrated into an Eclipse or 3000GT, but these were easily the most popular and recognizable models for Mitsu in the 90's when people started to realize they were more then just t.v.s, which is why I think everybody is so shocked by this "sudden" appearance of the twin grill nose. But it isn't new, its just being made more prominent for better brand recognition. They want you to be able to know you are looking at a Mitsubishi when you see one, the emphasis is off the name, because they are taking it off every car. The three diamonds say it all, and then of course, the model name.
Maybe some of you more creative types could draw a better front end for the Lancer, utilizing the corporate grill and make it so "everybody" likes it and "nobody" says it "looks like they stole the X of a, and had it artifically inseminated by a Y..."

I'm very happy with the new car looks. That's what I'll get next year! Good motor, good look, good shock, cool headlights, and rear lights, what can I ask more? A turbo charger kit from RRM?
I'm in love! Let's go
Ralliart!

I think it looks good too (just the ralliart one). If it were 180hp dohc, I would have bought, but just 160hp? I guess we shouldn't jump the official numbers, but a 2.4L should be more than capable of 160....Thats only 40 more HP than what we have now...I guess I'll wait a bit and see what developes with this one.
yeah way better like this..
but putting covers or vinyl won't do it.. it would need a new hood, fenders, and lights to have a nice looking front.. $$$$
still I really prefer the current model.. I mean, 200 times more
