2004 Lancer press release, pics, and now, TEST DRIVE!
The '04 Ralliart Edition Lancer is different from that of the OZ. Besides the exterior changes, the Ralliart Lancer has been tweaked with new bracing and a modified frame. The engine has been also modified to enhance performance. The suspension also has been modified with stiffer springs and maybe lower coilovers.

:help me:
im new to the board and im looking for the wisdom of other lancer drivers to help me with both the purchase of my
lancer and my aftermarket purchases. so i have a question......
i was reading up on the 2004 lancer ralliart and how it has 35% more power than the 2003 model. and the "predicted" retail price is around $24,000. so my question is, is it cheaper to buy the 2003 lancer and hooking it up so it gets up to the level of the 2004, ir should i buy the 2004 lancer straight? im on the mean budget,so even if i save a dollar itll help. thanx.....GOd BLEss

well. you can probably get a 2003 for like 15g-18gs. then with the 7-9gs you have left, you can turbo and womp on the new lancer model with the rrm turbo..and maybe the stage 2 upgrade.. $24k is a little much for just a lancer IMO..i mean the evo is like 5-6k more..with awd..and turbo..........
Well those are some good questions. I'll just say that if money is a real issue for you then you might be better off getting a 2003 or a used 2002.
Let me explain... first off, phe big plus to the current lancer is that there is more support for it and we are starting to see more as time goes by. It will be awhile before stuff for the 2004 will be ready.
Also the Evo VIII is based on the same frame and interior as the current Lancer. Therefore, one can infer, because of the fact that the Evo platform isn't about to change for at least two years, that we will continue to at the very least see cosmetic products for the current lancer to be made availible. From what I have seen, of the 2004 Ralliart, Mitsu is seperating and distinguishing the Lancer from the Evo by doing a total revamp of the look and style of the Lancer.
Plus there is the whole look of the car argument. I personally like the 2002-03 look. I think the 2004 looks, well, nasty... Not to mention that it makes our car more of a rarity, right?
As for the pluses for the 2004, it has more HP... and I think that is it. It is really easy, with a few hundred bucks, to get 140hp out of the current Lancer. Furthermore, it is possible to get well over 200 hp with a turbo upgrade. Just look at some of the stuff guys have done on this board.
I suspect that the quoted price of 24,000 is a bit high as well. The reason I say that is because the current MSRP of the OZ is something like 16 grand, I think... and I got mine for well under that. So if the Ralliart is 24 grand, you could most likely pick one up cheaper than that.
So if it came down to a choice between a 2003 OZ and a 2004 Ralliart I would go with the prior... I'd save the money and hook my ride up and then buy some ralliart stuff for my OZ and throw a ralliart badge on my trunk. Save the money, get a 2003.

All I have to say is there is no way in hell they will get away with setting MSRP at $24000. Everyone in the market for that car would just spend it on a WRX which you get more bang for your buck, or if you want the same performance as the RalliArt, then buyers would get the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V, or the Neon SRT-4. My guess would be MSRP for the RalliArt to be set around $18000, otherwise they would easily lose buyers to other companies.
For that price might as well put out a few thousand more and get the EVO. Not only that, the 2004 Lancer is ugly IMOP. You could buy a used 02/03 for a fairly good price. You could even purchase some from E-Bay. I saw some ranging from $6,000 to $10,000.
as much as i dislike throwing my .02 into a conversation like this (we do have a giant '04 raliart thread, remember?)...
just bore out the 4g94 if you're worried so much about the displacement. the raliart should be MSRPing at 18k last i checked. even still, with the 3-4k you save, have someone bore the cylinders a bit, throw some forged pistons and rods into it for later turbo-ing, and voila, your supporting the old addage "no replacement for displacement". but by the time you've spent THAT much money, i would have bought an evo.

There's no room to bore out a 4g94 to anywhere near 2.4l. The 4g9x block is already at its max...you MAY be able to squeeze out another 1/10th liter or so with proper sleeving.
The engine in the Ralliart Lancer will most likely be a 4g64 MIVEC.
Anyway...I'm merging this into the existing friggin' huge thread on the 2004 Lancer.

Some of you have a good point. I was thinking about an enjine sawp for my poor OZ but then you all re-stated the base price of a EVO. I think I will just go that route.
But I will keep my OZ.
But I will keep my OZ.

Looks like the Canadian press is already posting the reviews of the 2004 Ralliart Lancer. See link:

Pretty good review if you ask me...

Interesting article. The pictures of the yellow 2004 Ralliart look much more impressive than the pics previously released by Mitsu....ewww....at least this one had some side skirts and and a front lip which made it somewhat better looking... maybe it would look better with a hood vent?? I noticed the styling of the rear looks different too....the brake lamps look more like the EVO's ...not bad...
some of my observations from the article:
a.16 inch rims...eh...one inch more wouldn't hurt
b. ABS and 4 wheel disc brakes...nice
c. more stock torque than the Civic SiR - 162 vs. 132. Die Rice Nation Die!!!
d. needs a little more horsies under the hood
e. still needs better front end styling...and maybe some carbon fiber headlight eyelids to camouflage the pontiac sunfire headlights
f. turbocharged would rock!

not a bad price at all... just remember that this is a canadian article. the $24000 price tag translates to about $17000 usd. that's only $3k more than we paid for our us lancers!
3k for an extra 42 hp sounds like a lot (especially when you consider rrm turbo), but just think of the possibiliies...
as for the design, i'm not really feelin it. when they called it a decaf evo, they wern't kidding. i wasn't much for the evo 8 design to begin with... so my opinion says that it'll need a body kit FAST. i wonder if ralliart will make body kits for the new lancer the same way nismo did for nissan cars.
either way, i'm not changing cars. i love my lancer - it gets the job done. haha
just my 2 cents
