Nope, makes no difference whatsoever whether or not it is level. Just make sure you reset your ECU after you put it on.

reset ECU = unhook battery? i didnt do that! and i drove it today. I love the deep sound! not much performance difference tho. Maybe a little when i start from a stop light. I think the car starts to run sooner when i put my foot on the gas pedal, is that called throttle response or something?

Yeah, disconnect the negative battery for like 20 minutes, then reconnect it, start it up and let it idle for 10 minutes or so. That way the ECU will relearn the car's new intake and adjust itself accordingly. You should feel it most in the mid to upper end, like 3000-3500 and above rpm's. It should scream then.

why is it necessary to reset the ecu after installing the intake?

So the ECU can relearn the new air/fuel curve.

More air is not being sucked in. So to run correctly, your car must learn that.
