Alternatives to Piggback

Alright after doing some searching it seems like the RRM PB isn't suitable for cold weather, like we have up here. I was wondering what other options I have in terms of ECU tuning, would a reflash have the same problem? Keep in mind this is a daily driver and I'm not exactly a mechanical genius.

reflash is a maybe, I've only heard of one ebay vendor that's offered it so far, other than that, a standalone ECU is about the only other option

Alternatives to piggyback.........lets see, there is Horseback, Camelback,Donkeyback........, no really, there is only flashed ECU's, or stand alone/piggyback if you want to tweak the values yourself!

^^ what he said

emanage is easy to use and install, plus it has a whole community of tuners behind it. They're constantly upgrading the firmware, too, so it'll do more and is more stable, etc.

Well first of all you can't re-flash the stock ECU, (believe me i've tried) and the greddy e-manage is crap if your going turbo, so far the only real thing that is a sure thing is a stand alone, me personaly i'm going with the AEM EMS system, it's freaking awsome, not to mention i'm going turbo in the spring of '06 so this unit has so many possiblitys.

What are the risks associated with emanage? Thats my main worry, since I have no experience with tuning I don't wanna risk blowing up my engine or god knows what.

yeah I'm not going turbo, the exchange rate and install price would completely rape me, I rather put the money towards a ralliart, WRX, SRT-4, etc..

the problem with the Greddy E-manage is the stock ECU will fight you till end with tuning issues, it doesn't like piggy-back unit's at all, at least that's the case in the Ralliart.

Maybe you can't personally, but it can certainly be done. I believe Jet Performance (or something along those lines) still has a flash available, but I don't know about its quality. Other than that, pretty much every option has been mentioned. Apex'i SAFC, Greddy E-manage, HKS F-CON are the only other tunable piggybacks that I can think of, though I may be forgetting a couple. And there's always Haltech/AEM EMS, but I don't think you want to go that route if you're having reservations about a piggyback for any reason.

4G69 ECU is not a 4G94 ECU. The eManage works wonderfully on these cars- I've been using mine for two years now and no "fighting". I think you guys need to get the new firmware and/or get on GReddy's case about the Mivec controller and other issues associated with it and get newer firmware written. That's how all the other problems have been solved (including the fried-coilpacks-with-timing-harness issue) on every other car.

well, you can't really just install it and start turning knobs however you want. It does require some method of gauging how the changes are effecting the vehicle. wideband O2 is most common. Narrowbands have worked to a limited degree. EGTs can work but I had the problem of my probe burnign out after less than 10K miles AND if you start going too lean the EGT will start going back down again- that's bad for the engine.

so if you're going to go eManage you'll either need to get a good tuning tool or pay a shop to help you tune.

well that's fine for you OZ N/A guys, but i have already spoken to Greddy and they are in no hurry to make anything for the Mivec engines, so i'm going full stand alone and that's gonna solve my issues once and for all
