Nooooo!

I am installing my bored throttle body from RRM right now. So I go to take off the the throttle body and there is a gasket behind it! Noooo!

So now I am calling everywhere to see if any stores have them and no one does and the dealer will have to order it! Dammit!

Now I have to put all the stuff back on from the stock throttle body.

Just to let everyone know, buy a gasket when buying the bored throttle body from RRM. The TB should have came with a gasket or should have mentioned something so I don't go spending my time to take off the TB only to see a gasket.

Maybe I am just stupid for not knowing one was there. I am just pissed and felt like venting.

Also the gasket is like paper I was going to see if it comes off, but it looked like it was going to tear. Anyone have any ideas? Can the new TB go on without a gasket or will it not work right? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

What a waiste of time. LoL.

It will not work right without a gasket. Just go to a local machine shop with your Tbody and they will make you a new one. No big deal.

Get a piece of construction paper and... j/p. Put the stock TB back on and go to the dealership.

Ya I know I am just ordering one from the dealer I guess.

It's just I am mad that I took it all off and then saw it, heh. Oh well, guess the new TB will have to wait a few more days.

If I would take old one off, it is stuck to the throttle body and would probably rip. It's like "melted" to it. It is not a copper gasket, it is more like a thick paper gasket. I have 68K miles on my car so maybe that is why it is stuck on there.

The only thing I am mad at is that I just wanted it in today, LOL.

But I just put the old TB back on and I ordered a gasket from the dealer so I will just wait till then to put it on.

rrm told me you could reuse the gasket. mine was stuck to the IM when i took off my TB, just took a nice hunting knife and got it off (don't try to pull on it wth your hands or it might rip)

but i agree, you should replace all gaskets when you remove stuff (exhaust, IM, etc etc). and a little hint: in an engine whenever 2 pieces of metal come together in a flange (or similar), there is usually a gasket

This brings up a good question... where can we pick up copper gaskets for our cars?

Are you going to port match it to the intake manifold? I think you are supposed to inorder to really get the benefit of using the larger TB.

RTV works good on threads of a bolt too so you don't get leaks out of it. (where you have bolts going thru a gasket) It is almost like a silicone rubbery type material that looks like balloon material when it sets up. Since this is on the intake manifold/tb it doesn't actually have liquid flowing through it, so you don't have to worry about any leaks, except air. Yea, gaskets like those should be replaced every time you take them apart though. Metal ones are still good though if not compressed and ruined. Cheap rubber and paper gaskets have to get replaced or else you will get leaks. The rubber and paper gaskets get compressed after tightening them down once, then the heat makes them stay like that. Leaks are bad.
