CRAZY idea

I've been thinking about the Puerto Rico Mitsu guys using the Montero ECU as a swap in for which particular car I don't remember...but just as a crazy thought what if it were possible to use a 1.8L Mirage ECU. It has the raised rev limiter and the engines are almost the same.

Just for discussions sake what could happen if someone tried this?

We know the cams are different but what else would affect this working?

Yes I'm bored just need a topic that is different.

The people who swapped the OZ engine into the mirage (I think) hit problems with their ecu...

Indeed. I can never remember the name of the guy who did the swap first, but he couldn't run the 4g94 on a 4g93 ECU.

He eventually swapped in an Evo V engine because he wanted more power.

I bumped the swap post but there was also another one where he talks about the ECU pinouts. Here

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=36837

It never really was clear weather or not the ECU's were swappable since one was manual and the other Auto.

Here's the swap post and I'm amazed that this topic had kind of already been touched on but I didn't remember

Check out the Mirage forums. There is more than one thread on there of swaps from 4G94 into a Mirage. For one thing, the engine harnesses are different (we're talking 1.8L 4G93 Mirages too, which are close cousins to ours).

I'd be happy to try this if they're not too much. mostly because I'm SURE the ECU can't be as restirctive as ours currntly is ( G94 ECUs!!! )

Just checked car-part.com and I can get one for about $75. I'd just need to make sure it's for a MT. There'd be a little fiddling with the eManage concerning dip swithes and such, but I think it's not a bad idea.... but I'm feeling really lazy right now and I don't want to hunt for the info. Wadad keep up the detective work

dunno, since you've got the emanage, maybe you could drop in an 2G eclipse turbo ecu. that way you get knock retard if you ever plan to go turbo.

i'd run my way around some boards first to see what the stock baseline maps are to compare. the fact that either vehicle uses a different MAS and fuel system is gonna set what kind of adjustments you're gonna make when you hook it up. also, not all car models and years use the same kind of sensors. if i remember right, the 3g eclipse guys have a really weird way of hooking up their safc.

Well I've got some major time off this next week or so. Gonna check into it with a local junk yard or parts place.

My main topic of discussion for opening this topic again was to discuss what might go wrong?

I spoke with the mechanic here in Orlando that does most of the RPW installs and his opinion on the 1.8L ecu is that it may work however there will be a question as to whether the 2.0 sensors will be compatible.

I know ADAMJ39 said he had to use the 1.8L cam sensor with the 2.0 ecu to get it to work.

Anyway
I couldn't find any 1.8L ecus near here and those that I saw online were approximately $200.

I asked what if I got the 1.8L sensors and he said there were extremely expensive but you never know, the 1.8L ecu might not need all the sensors the 2.0 newer ecu has. So basically we are back to square one.

Eboy, where did you see that ECU for $75.

you have to look by year now- they no longer just give you a list of everything that will probably work. take a look at 1998-2001 and see if you can't find one cheaper. But I didn't buy one.
