Long custom catback question, sorry.

OK, not sure where this goes (maybe either how-to, or tech support?) but anyways, I want to get a custom catback done for my 2004 OZ and I have some questions (yes i already searched). First, I believe there are 2 cats in the exhaust about 2-3 feet apart, can one of these be removed completely? Also, I know the RRM 2003 high flow cat wont fit my car bolting it on, but i can still use it if i just have it welded on right? So basically i guess my overall question is...can i get a custom catback made, remove one cat, and replace the other one with a welded in high flow cat? Sorry this is so long but i cant find the answers anywhere else. thanks to any and all help.

Custom exhaust wouldn't be that difficult. Yes, it is simple and can be done as such. Any muffler place or quality shop could do this work. Look for a universal high-flow cat, since they'll just weld it together anyway. It'll save ya some $$$. Hope this helps, and good luck.

the only way to replace the first cat is to get aftermarket headers (its in the exhaust manifold)

for the second one, just pick up the magnaflow HFC from another store (its universal, rrm just welds on flangeds for us) and have the shop do it. although it might be a good idea to ahve the shop make flanges for the HFC in case it needs to be replaced down the road.

yes the first cat is replaced by a downpipe right? and the second needs to be replaiced by a high flow, when they put the catback on its exactly what it says, a CAT, BACK.

what you are thinking of in the downpipe is just a flex-pipe. the other cat is in your header...the cat is literally part of the exhaust manifold. you better gut that sucker out or put some aftermarket headers on your ride...the second cat is just after the downpipe.

Why would you want a HFC? You only get about .5hp out of it, and yes that is a half, not five hp, and hp not whp. Sure every little bit helps, but I would get a downpipe first, that will really open it up.

i had a custom DP made at a local shop. kamikazi makes a DP + header but i stuck to RRM since the kamikazi DP+header isn't compatible with RRM turbo...the other 2 "muffler looking things" would go in order like previously stated, steal braided flexpipe (part of your DP) into your cat through more piping to a resonator and then to your muffler...just a heads up, full exhaust's (header,dp,hfc, cat back) are loud.

my exhaust was a bit expensive:
custom piping (with hanger fabrication and apex'i muffler install): $330
apex'i muffler: $200
RRM 4-1 header: $350 (i believe, i'm to lazy to check)
custom downpipe: $200
2.5in gutted cat: free

slovak, i suppose you are right about the HFC...but what about guys that plan on going turbo that are looking to get the exhaust done in one shot? i do see where you are coming from though. 0.5hp doesn't really help out all that much hahaha

True, but going turbo didn't sound like his plan for the future in his original post.

If he isn't going turbo, wouldn't opening up the exhaust this much suck all of his torq away?
