THe infamous HOW BIG of EXHAUST for my NA Lancer discussion thread...

I have a subscription to Import Tuner, and I pic up other magazines as the intrest me as i walk thru the magazine section. in the Nov. 2005 issuse of IT ( yes subscribers often get the issues a month or so early... ) Well the new Fastest Import NA FWD drag car is a Civc Type R. The car ran a 9.85 at 135.* in the 1/4. Impressive for all motor. skunk2 built it but i don't remember much other than the guy said, he challenges anyone who says that NA guys should stick to a smaller exhaust... So i keep hearing which size is better etc. well heres ur chance Lancer Owners and Vendors... give us ur statement and theory behind it.

(yes mods, i do feel this should belong here, its not for arguements, and no one should be quoting anyone else to say ur wrong or anything, this thread is not for that. )

Our cars are too slow to matter! So what ever exhaust you get a good deal on you should go with that!

or you could be cheap like me, and get a "fancy tip" and a glasspack, and weld them on. i dont see what gains you could get with a large exhuast, could just go straight pipes for that. or just leave no pipes behind headers. gains will be minimun, and loud noise. i cant see anything technical about it. except the exhuast leaving quickly, and taking some fuel/air with too.

2.25" or maybe even a 2" depending on the support mods. Civic Type Rs can make some pretty decent power out of their engines NA, plus it's a honda, they make all their power in the upper RPMs anyways.

well when your running 9s you can afford to go bigger. there are no N/A lancers anywhere near nines. hell there are no n/a lancers in the 15s. stay with 2.25 for n/a

Im going w/ 2.5... and its been the only one to be dynoed... and until i get a dyno from a 2.25 to prove its better... i dont really think it matters which size anyone picks. The few hp or tq one gained over the other is not gonna be noticable

i think every runner should have it's own exhaust pipe sticking straight out the hood!! YEAH BABY!!

Screw that exhaust sizing crap... just a quick up and out... no muffler, no cats, nothing but about 12-16" of runner!!

Kinda like the big dragsters.

I'm telling you guys... up and out is the way to go for sure.

If you plan on turboing later it's all good... just mount the sucker on you're hood for a true CAI and maximum cooling benefits!!

Okay... i've had enough fun...

would there be any gains to keeping your cat and muffler and stuff, just deleting all the unneeded piping so your exhaust ends maybe like half way to the back of the car? but on topic-i'd go with 2.25 stainless steel cause thats what my magnaflow is.
