How do you get "Smoked out taillights"?

I came across this on cardomain, and i was wondering how do you do this? He says he did it himself, the pictures are on page 1.

the answers are on here....there is spray tint(i.e. niteshades) that you can spray on, or you can lay a film over them.....

Where could i buy "spray tint"? Advanced Autoparts or something like that, or is more of a thing that i need to get online? Are there certain percentages to the tint or something like on windows? Also, when i take out the tail lights do i need to unplug the battery or anything like that?

So i asked somebody what they think, they said its a bad idea because it will be hard to spray on evenly, so it will look really choppy. Does it work that way, and what about my question about the tint percentages, do those even exist or is it just a general tint?

i sprayed my friends taillights with spray tint, and it is hard to get it to go on evenly. But if u take ur time and depending on how dark u want them, then it can turn out really good.

unless you really really want them to look like this I would get EvoDave to just blacken the chrome out of your taillight. That is unless you drive an ES In that case, I know how you feel
