^^^^ My point exactly...mod/modify=to make different. Personalize your ride to your taste; forget what everyone else says, it's still your car right?

did anyone else realize that its kind of like a video game? I used to play them a lot before I got into cars, but now I hardly play them. Now its like a game to mod the lancer. Accomplishing missions (installs), beating objectives for points (working a job), and when a install frustrates the hell out of me and I cannot seem to beat it, I check online for a cheat code (searching evom.net). I think this means I agree with the people above in that I like my car mods because of the hobby, not because I think that it will one day be an ultimate track car or that I "live my life one 1/4 mile at a time". BUT, to each his own.

Simple reason...because you WANT to. Make it YOURS. Who gives a crap what someone else says? And, yes, this is exactly what American muscle guys tell import guys until their muscle car blows up and the import 4 cylinder is still running

Mod your car because you WANT to. Don't listen to crap from American Muscle fanatics.
I have done visual mods to the interior and the sound system (soon) because I want to. I don't enter shows (yet) and don't race. 120hp really can't beat s**t. Except a few Cavy's and crap.

I mod my car because I like how the back looks, and I want everyone else to get a real good look at it

^^ HAHA! Maybe thats why mitsu made the front of our 04 lancers so....not very aggressive looking! the leisure drivers can let others see the front...but we let them see our tails! ~*Vrrrrooooom-ing away*~

haha, thats some pretty funny ****

modding the lancer is fun, its very sluggish but it actually handles rather well and I personally love the looks of my 03. Not many cars in the lancers price range that I really like. Simple look that can be made quite aggressive with the right mods. happy modding!

i am always fighting the v8 people. when i get excited about something small, if its not 300hp, they dont want to hear it. i dislike idividuals who flame someone who doesnt have ground-raping power. i bought my car becuase i can afford it, and couldnt afford much else, and if i could afford to drive, insure, and mod an evo, i would! dont flame me or anyone when we want to add something new. someone mentioned video games as a metaphor for modfiying, well, here's mine. legos. everyone has them, but its the order you put them in that makes the difference, and when u get a new set, you go nuts. and "it only gets better"

I just read one a while ago which included an evo owner's rant of how the lancer is a waste of time to modify. It is either me or a lot of other people who are missing the point. To me, in my brief experience with modding (cold air but a couple nice parts on the way), modifying your car is all about improvement. I love how something as insignificant as a cold air can make me so much more excited to drive my car. The great thing is you only know it is going to get better. I know that people mod for a lot of different reasons (show, race, think they are sweet), but seriously, i just want to have fun. And I seriously doubt many evo owners race their vehicles, which basically makes their modding no different from mine: just improvement. Now I know modding an evo and a us lancer is very different in the performance department, but there is nothing different about the amount of enjoyment i'm capable of getting. In my eyes, it needs to be tasteful though (yeah thats a vague definition). Whatever makes you enjoy YOUR car more. Sorry I can't support evo badges on an oz but still, why would someone be ashamed to own an oz or es? Hell i'm 20 years old and very lucky to have the car to begin with. With that said, I really enjoy this site and the people on it for the most part seem great. Can't wait to go to driving school in June and truly discover the potentials of a modern economy car. Sorry for the book guys, hope someone gives it a read.
Mtags, welcome to the boards. It is a pleasure to have someone who appreciates modding, tuning, and working on cars in general. I believe you will be an asset to the community you speak of, and wish you hadn't held your tounge for so long. The only real difference in modding that I can think of is that with the DSM I'm getting is when you throw on an MBIC, Intake, and a couple mods.... you get 30-40whp and your head flying against the seat. With the lancer the end benefit is a little less extreme but none-the-less satisfying. There's a lot of people who know a lot about this car on the boards, and if you need help with anything be sure to ask someone or pm me. I've come to learn a lot about lancers from dissassembling my engine with Jotun after it blew and putting another one in after rebuilding it. It was because of people on this board and the desire to mod in the first place that gave me the drive to complete that project. Good having you here, it's people like you that are why I love this community.

I enjoy modding my car cause its interesting to me and it makes me feel good. I do understand these evo owners to a certain extent. i mean, of all cars, most, you get satisfactory gains from say just an intake, while on the lancer, to me, its almost not noticeable except for in the sound. i also am bothered by the fact that when flooring it, the car gets so loud, to not be going very fast. but yet i am still sitting here throwing mods onto it. I know it might never reach anywhere over 300hp, but its an easy engine to mod and a good beginners car and quite cheap as well. Do it cause it makes you happy.

IMO it is a waste to mod a regular Lancer. It is a waste of what could be thousands of dollars between wheels, exhaust, intakes, shifters, sway bars etc. on a car that will still end up being just as slow as before you spent the money, and investing the money in body kits etc. to make it look fast is just plain mockery because anyone that knows cars knows it's not an evo and that it's slower than snails.
The bright side of things is it's your money and you can spend it any way you want. The smart upgrades are things like audio goodies because you can actually benefit from their use every day and even take it with you if you ever buy a real sports car.
Turbo or sc is totally up to you, huge *** waste of money to shorten the life of your engine, only have two wheels to try to keep the power planted on the ground properly, and still get your *** handed to you by someone with a sports car that goes that fast from the factory. I won't mention any other car names that can do this easily.
