05 ES Intake

Hi guys, I've searched several time for a direct answer to this, but haven't really found a solid answer.

I am planning to get a SRI for my 05 Lancer ES. Will any intake that fits the 02-03 work? From reading the various old threads, is it true then that my 2.0L engine is the same as the 02-03 models?

And also, is it hard to install the intake? or should I have it done professionally. The old one looks pretty complex to remove =/.

Thanks.

Yes it'll fit, there's minor differences from 03 to 04 but nothing regarding the intake.

Intakes are the litmus test of potential car people. if you can't install the intake your self, then you should just be driving a Geo Metro. No offense.

if you can change your oil you can install an intake

if you can't change your oil you should probably get AAA because god forbid if you ever got a flat tire

I took my ES to a shop to install the CAI. Why? Laziness? Maybe. Then again I also was living on a ship at the time parked on base with no tools or anywhere to install it myself. The ***** of living on a ship with only a small area under your bed for personal stuff. Guess that's why there's an overwhelming amount of Air Force members here instead of Navy.

I'm pretty sure all the basic mods will work. Intake, header, exhaust. RRM is like the only company that gives a damn about the regular Lancer so always check there.

yeah the engine is the same inside the engine bay. exhausts from 03 wont fit 04+. except for the magnaflow axelback. i started a thread about things that will and wont fit the 04+ from the 03s. thatd be helpful. and all you need i think is a 10mm wrench to get the whole intake out. just read a how to first to make sure you dont screw anything up. very easy though

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm going to get it today.

Anyways, while I was looking around in the engine bay today, I noticed the stock hose had a similiar bend like the aftermarket intake. Should I just take out the stock filter and replace it with the K&N one? Or should I buy the polished pipe as well. Is there even a difference?

Keeping the stock on would save me the trouble of not having to remove the MAS and my strut bar.

Thanks again =).

cause i dont know what "hose" youre talking about. If you mean that PCV hose, that goes into the aftermarket intae the same way, but if you mean the intake hose that goes onto the throttle body, it depends which intake you get, some come with a tube to replace that, and some are just a filter that attaches to your maf sensor piece.

Ooo, i'm planning on getting something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-04...21467542QQrdZ1

And seeing how the piping is the similiar to stock, why can't I just go buy a universal K&N filter instead of the whole kit?

Because you need a MAS adapter to attach the K&N to the MAS. The MAS's intake side is just a flat surface. You need to bolt the adapter to the MAS to attach the K&N. But I've seen adapters for Civic's at Autozone, so maybe they'll work for that...

ive looked at autozone and there are no adapters for the lancer, the civic one is too small i think. if the ebay one comes with that stainless steel piece then thats all you need. but it does the same thing as the stock one. i found somewhere a while back that sold just that adapter for like 20 bucks, then you could just buy the filter and save a crap load of money.
