Engine Swap possible? or worth it?
Engine Swap possible? or worth it?
So this guy I works with that drives a 05 Evo8 and seems to know his sh*t was talking to me about my plans for my car (2003 Lancer OZRally). My plans are pretty pricey (including a RRM stage 2 intercooled turbo kit and professional installation and tuning) so I'm not sure about it anymore after our conversation. He first told me I should save some money and swap my engine out to a 4g63 evo engine if I want power but I pointed out that that would involve alot of work (I've heard that one would have to convert the car to AWD for that). Then he tells me about a friend of his with a late 90's eclipse GS-T. He says the engine is a 4g63 FWD turbo....and that I should look into dropping one of those in my car.
What I'm trying to find out is....
Is that swap even possible? Does it fit?
Does it require serious amounts of work with fuel management and sh*tloads of other stuff? Would doing that be cheaper than my initial turbo plans?
Has anyone looked into this before? What kind of work is involved?
He says his friend knows his stuff and loves that engine and might be willing to work on it with me (as you can probably tell im rather new and dont know much, but I'm hungry to learn).

some one did that swap.. i give him props

its gonna be alot of work but u dont need AWD but if ur pushing 300+on FWD u'd probably wont have any traction

Well i dunno about the 4g63(evo motor)....but the 4g63t(eclipse gs-t motor) will not fit..the tranny is on the opposite side than the lancer so it will def not fit but i am not sure about the 4g63
In the end it'd be pointless, you'd spend thousands of dollars and months of time to be at the same place you would have been if you just turboed the damn car. Plus there's the problem of insurance (most places won't insure a "frankenstein" car) as well as traction, and reliability.
It's your call but if you're going to get an RRM kit tuned profefssionally anyway, you might want to look into having a shop peice together a custom kit, go with an E-Manage and then have them tune it. Might even be able to swing in some headwork or internals too..
id love to upgrade the internals but that takes a chunk-o-cash that i still gotta save up, same with the emanage. There's a shop nearby me (Momentum Tuning) they specialize in custom turbo setups and tuning, mostly on audis and VWs but they probably do other cars too. Think i should check them out?

4g64 is a good bolt up and you could theoretically put a 63 head on it if im not mistaken, yet unless under extremely high boost applications, the head swap would make no difference.
so thats a swap that is feesable and would net close to 30 whp and lotsss of torque... o well hopefully sclc comes through.

In all honesty, you are probably better off just building up the factory 4g94. there is much more invovled than just "swapping an engine," including parts, cost, and what i value more importantly is reliability. its a good idea and it would be awesome if you did the swap, but i suggest you go to rrm and have them help you out.

My buddy's Stage 2 didn't usually hook up until way into 2nd gear.
From a stop, I DESTROYED him 0-60, but he of course beat me in the 1/4 mile by 2 seconds. With no traction.

i.e. easy out of the hole until he hits 2nd for full traction.
i know someone who is working on a 4G64 swap right now.
