new gauges

There's an auction on ebay for a set of OZ gauges. It says they have about 4000 miles on them. Would replacing a set with those make it seem that the car has 4000 miles on it? or are the numbers stored elsewhere?

It's stored on the cluster. You have to take your old and new cluster somewhere to get the rite miles transferred.

Oddly enough I seem to remember one account of someone's mileage changing with the gauge change and another saying his remained the same.

the point is that if you can change the car mileage then you can pretend your car is worth more money, or get insurance discounts.
That smells funny.

I think we all understand the point, but the answer as to what will happen is what I'm uncertain about. Hell, I'd swap gauges with someone just to find out, but that would mean having free time...which I have precious little of.

Yes, It's kept in the cluster....I've seen two conversions and done one myself....mileage changed in each circumstance. If you want it to match, talk to your dealer.

It'll give you a TMU - Total Miles Unknown.

SO!!!

which one is it ?

There are now 3 options. Miles change, miles stay the same, TMU (total miles unknown) error.

Should we maybe put it up for a vote? haha

I'd bet on miles being whatever is on the new guages... the TMU would be for trade-in or whatnot... since you would have guages that don't belong on the car installed... so they "might" think its tampering... and yes it is illegal to roll back miles..
