should i lower myself or no

alright, i just got lowering springs from tein for my lancer on xmas ( gotta love my brother) , and i got quoted 190 bucks to install from rob at RRM, that is kinda pricey for me. i have been looking into the installs from other people on here, sounds a little too complex for my mechanical skills but my friend said he'll help me and he knows more about cars than i do. would u suggest i do it myself, or shell out the money and get it done by someone like RRM. i mean ,it would be cheaper if i do it, and give me the knowledge , but how difficult is it..on a 1-10 scale. and what problems would i most likely run into???? i dunno, i kinda dont wanna spend almost 200 bucks, plus i gotta get the wheel alignment after too...damn

oh yeah, i plan on renting out a spring compressor,............if i could

on a 1-10 scale, dong lowering springs without much knowlegde, would be a 7-8, you would need to go rent a spring compresor, and an air gun would do some help no matter what you will still need to get your wheels aligned, and then buy a camber correction kit(since the alignment wont do you any good unless you get the camber correction kit). the main problem is going to be keeping everything mostly aligned, and making sure the nut from the strut camber plate doesnt shoot you in the head.

total time about 2+ hours

i got quoted 170 to install some, not that far out there. I think that suspension mods are something that you really dont wanna screw up, you dont wanna be goin down street and have something happen. just get it down at RRM

^ i don't think you need the camber kit as much if u just got springs, especially teins. they only drop about 1.3-1.5 inches.

i have the ///RRM Progress Springs on my car and i never got an alignment or camber kit. i can take my hands off the wheel at 80mph and still go in a perfectly straight line for a good 1/4 mile. so i know my alignment is dead on. and i haven't gotten any excessive tire wear either.

^its not about being able to go straight, you car will be fine and can achieve maximum strightness(WTF? lol) without the camber kit, but...(dun dun....duuun) whats going to suffer is tire wear, and tires will get coned a certain way

Read my How-To article on Spring/Suspension installation https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=55493
It's not too difficult, especially if you have a second set of hands, but it will take a first timer about 4-6 hours to complete. You DON'T need a spring compressor for the Lancer, but you will need the other tools mentioned.

And $190 is not bad at all. My friend got quotes around the Los Angeles area, and they ranged from $200 to $300. I suppose you could take the advice above, but if you mess up, you might have to pay like $100 to get it towed there

I got the Ground Control coilovers, so I really didn't need the spring compressor. Just took the pieces I needed to Sears (friends with air guns) and had them take off the nuts free. Overall install took half a day with running around, but definitely worth it to do it yourself (or with a friends assistance).

it cost about 150 to install coilovers ... 190 isnt bad b/c u have to remove the strut and remove the oem springs plus put the new springs on... coilovers, all u have to do is replace the struts.
