how to beat a 5MT?

Hey all I am new here, My girlfriend has an 03 Lancer ES that we are working on upgrading. She has 16 motegi MR-7's wraped with toyo proxy FZ-4s. I added a OZ rally spoiler to her car and she has a JVC mp3 Head unit with Apline Type S speakers.

I have a Stage 2 WRX that puts down a little less than 300 at the crank. I am very actice on nasioc.com and wrxtuners.com but enough of the intro.

It is time for my G/F's car to go a little bit faster. Her friend has an 04 lancer ES 5MT and my G/Fs is a 4EAT. What does she need to be faster than her friends 5MT so her friend will finally shut up about her car being faster. I don't know what sort of parts make decent gains on this type of car.

Would an intake be a good place to start or a crank pully, maybe both if I can find them for a decent price. She doesn't want much done, no headers, no exhaust, is there anything else? I have read about the RRI(?) chip, but cannot find dyno prove HP gains anywhere. Does anybody have reliable info on that or would it be better dollar for dollar at this point to get an intake and pully?

-Travis
C/N's 03 lancer ES auto, needs to be faster than 04 5MT. should I get an intake or crank pully or what else?

All the threads that i found were old. Such as the sticky from RRM it even says there are many new parts since this was written. As for intake, who makes a decent one, I do not want to get her a CAI for her car and keep in mind that it is an auto. A lot of the sites I see say auto or manual only for a certain intake. With subaru's there is no such thing as a tranny specific intake (or any other parts that dont' connect to a tranny for that matter).

As much as I can tell that all you guys like RRM they are just to expensive. I have parts to buy for my car too. I am looking for some sort of intake in the $100 or less range. I don't know if anybody makes any new ones for that price so I would assume I should go look around the FS forums for a RRM intake?

I have the RRM intake and its nice. Realistically if your girlfriend doesn't even want an exhaust or header (a mod which produces great gains) she won't really want a lot of the other mods. An intake and pulley won't do much on a stock engine and I highly doubt that they will do enough to beat a manual. If she wants to stay NA and do it she'll need at least intake, header, pulley and possibly bored TB and IM.

There's no such thing as cheap when it comes to the lancer.

Is that because there are only two or three manufacturers that make lancer ES mods? From what I hear Evo's are very cheap and easy to mod, much easier than subaru's. The motor in an evo has been around for 20 years and if you so much as sneeze on it, it produces much better power gains then you would ever get with a subaru.

Alright, well thanks for the help. I am going to go tell her all that, at least her car handles better than her friends with the 16X7.5 with FZ4 tires.

If you just wanna free up some breathing room grab an ebay short ram intake, you wont be able to do a cold air intake without a battery relocation. Other then that id say the RRM light weight pulley is your best bet. 99$ and a great way to make her ride quicker. A header and exhaust would help alot but like you said money is tight.

Simple answer. Without spending too much or wasting too much time. Just buy RRM's pretuned piggyback and the 5spd can go to hell.
