header coatings
Ok, I've heard of ceramic coated headers, jet coated headers, and I'm sure there's some kindo f product I can paint my headers with meself. My questions is this: I'm searching through the phone book and yellowpages.com and I can't find the type of business I would take my headers too.... Would a powder coating place do it? What do I 'search' for to locate somewhere to put some kind of heat/rust protection on my headers? Thanks again. . .

what kind of header ? I took mine, steel brushed and sanded it, then sprayed it with an automotive grade high temp header paint (black), you trhen let them dry for 30 min to an hour, then install them and run the car for about 40 min to literly bake the paint on. worked GREAT. I have a nice rust proof finish on my header and it hasnt flaked or chipped or anything.

If you want a coating that will work as a heat barrier, then you ought to get them ceramic coated by a company like Jet Hot (which would require mailing it away). If you just want to protect the metal for a bunch less money, maybe try VHT flameproof (or something like that) coating in a spray can. Places like Summit or Jegs carry it.

I'll be contacting some local powdercoating shops tomorrow to find someone in the area who can help. I'm not building a race car, just a faster lancer. I don't need to ship my headers out, I'll just find someone local who can help out. Being that I live about 20 min. from Daytona, I'm sure there's someone around here who can help out. Thanks all for the input!
