Angry Shocking!

Was wondering if anyone else is having a problem with static electricity. For the past 3-4 months, every time I get out of my car
I get a nasty static shock I mean this **** ****ing hurts at times! My g/f gets it sometimes from the passenger side, but I get it everytime on drivers side. Sometimes it'll shock my leg through my pants as I'm getting out of my car.

it mainly has to do with the humidity in the air, like if u noticed it hardly ever happens in the rain or during a rainy week, but if it gets dry for a while u start getting shocked. im not really sure but thats my guess

you're definitely not the only one with this problem. it does it both driver and passenger sides on my car. i have no idea what causes such nasty static electricity. it does hurt like a biatch sometimes. i wish i could avoid shutting my door at times because of it.

You know AllstarE4 I feel exactly the same way, and the dry air thing isn't a factor here. Even when it's raining it happens. I live in San Diego, actually El Cajon about 20 minutes east of Downtown S.D., and we don't get much rain here in So Cal. But it tends to be humid, and my past couple of cars I owned didn't have this problem the way my Lancer does. I was even thinking maybe something with the electrical system in the car might have something to do with it.

hahahha...you need to get those little metal strips that drag on the ground that you attach to the bumper so you dont get shocked anymore. It seems a little granny like, but if it is really bothersome then that can solve your problem.

Man, I'm to the point where I'm scared to touch metal, knowing good and well I'm gonna get zapped. Mine are the audible, light up a dark room, kind of static. Shoulda never touched that lamp plug when I was a little kid.

oh man i am SO glad i saw this post....i thougth i was the only ****er who got shocked the hell by their car...at first i thought it was becuz of my system and that it wasnt grounded right...and after i got rid of it it stopped doin it.....however, that piece of **** 2 weeks later -> present decides to shock the living **** out of me every day; both passenger and driver side doors. No joke, one of the times, i saw a blue spark go from my fingertip to the car, i got shocked that bad! Mother ****er hurt! Whatever i deal w/ it tho. Sometimes, hwen i get out the car, i just jump in the air and shut the door, therefore im not grounded to the ground and i wont get shocked Try it sometime hhaha its funny

the reason for the shocks is when it is dry at all in the air and the lovely fact that in our Lancers we have that soft polyester plush on the edges of our seats. (I do in my OZ ... I think you guys have it too) When cotton or wool rubs on that stuff it builds up a hell of a charge... and I've gotten shocked so bad once or twice that part of my hand went numb.

The only thing you can do to get rid of it is to get some seat covers, or just start hoping for more humid weather.

Those granny strips will do nothing to stop the shocks we are getting... it is purely the faux suede on the edges of the seats. The granny strips only work if you buy 20 dollar POS tires that aren't as conductive as they are supposed to be (tires actually have to transfer the electricity they generate by rolling back into the road properly or you can get a big ol' shock that way too)

So the moral of the story is don't drag your **** getting out of the car and then you'll be all good. Or get some seat covers and then no more problems!

I sadly sat and experimented until I figured out WTF was causing it

Later!

Steve
