I am thinking about getting a Radar Detector and or Laser Detector the Escort Passport 8500 X50 and or Escort Shifter Zr3. But I need it for ofcourse everyday use but especailly when I go on road trips out of town and such, so what would keep me safest? What do most cops run? Im in Alabama, so If you live around here that would be great but all opinons are welcomed. Thanks

 

i heard that Cobra one is the best, dunno wheather thats lazer or radar, but i know alot of people who have it and it works well.

 

Most modern detectors are both Radar and Laser... The one $50 Cobra detector I have has definitely paid for itself many a times over...

 

I have an old escort my buddy gave me when he bought a new one. Its really cheap but it works the same.

 

go for the 8500 X50 or a Valentine 1. They both out-perform anything else. Detection range and a small number of incorrect hits are both must haves. I have had my 8500 X50 pick up state troopers using Ka band at over 5 miles. Laser, none of them are really much use, until you start spending thousands. On a rare occasion you might pick up a stray laser hit, but usually, if the detector picks it up, it's too late.

 

Get a Valentine One, absolutly the best. Period.

 

What he said. All a laser detector will do is tell you you should pull over, because you're busted.

That said, any decent detector out now will pick up laser, and all the various bands of radar.

 

^almost true. only a few models on the market pick up hits that use POP mode (can't remember if it's K or Ka tho)

 

it's a toss up between valentine-1, and beltronics 995. i've got the beltronics and been ticket free ever since

Rocky Mountain Radar, It detects all bands of radar, and laser, it also jams whatever method the police are using to get you, and has VG2 which keeps the cops from knowing you even have a detector. I would add the Escort 8500 to that too. All 3 test as the best out there. I'm rolling on a Bel 940 the previous generation to the 995. Bel is the best value for sure and Bel/Escort are made by the same people.

You are kidding right? Other than than they don't work as a jammer, they don't work as a detector and since there is nothing inside they don't work as a paperweight. Use the Google button and read about them a little more.

 

I have the V1 and love it.... nice to know where the radar is coming from......

 

 

Sorry to double post. Radar vs laser debate. Most cops have Ka instant on (POP) radar which is just about as deadly as laser since when you detect it its too late. You end up picking it up because they are bouncing it off the car in front of you. All alone and you are smoked.

State troopers are better funded so they get better toys like laser. They aim lasers at your front plate and a lasers cross-section is like 6" or something really small so if you put you detector lower in the windshield you have a better chance of picking it up if the aim is a little off but most likely you are toast anyways. No signal strength on a laser so there is no time to slow down.
