Diagnostic/Scan tools

Ive been looking around, and cant find anything worth buying. If anyone has a tool they recommend please post. Ive came across this reading the new issue of Import Tuners http://www.scangauge.com/

It would look and fit perfect on top of the steering wheel. And to install it you only have to plug it into the Diagnostic plug under the dash. Install time should only be 5 mins if even that. My Only concern would be does it turn on automatically?

With any diagnostic tool you either turn the car on or for live info turn the engine on. Too easy. I might get this, im looking to invest in a diagnostic tool so I can diagnose my own problems instead of going somewhere all the time to pull codes.
Plus it does more than just pull and clear codes.
