eclipse GSX fuel pump

my friend is gonna give me a '96 eclipse GSX fuel pump. is it gonna be worth dropping it into my OZ? does anyone have flow figures for the GSX pump and our lancer pumps? i have to go and pull my fuel pump out of my car for my auto class next week so it would be a cherry time to do it. thanks.

only reason you would need it is if you are running forced air induction and have a fuel management system.

That's the wrong type of mentality bordering on arrogance.

That's not necessary, either.

4 of us mirage guys have done it. Dudeinamirage, me, a NA 1.5L and TC 1.5L . . . all of us have different results.

The stock FP will run normal at cruising speed, but at WOT it'll begin to max out your injectors. Your ecu might not 100% fix the rich conditon at WOT all the time, especially in hot weather.

This mod is heck a lot better than FPR and gives extra fuel needed during mid-powerband.

Go for it.

Look for stock fuel pump figure at www.vfaq.com

If your fuel tank is like my mirage, you'll have to drop your tank. It's PITA!!!!!!

Also, you'll have to drill about 1/8 of an inch lower on your FP bracket. GSX FP is a bit bigger.

In the long run, you don't have to mash the throttle to gain cruising speed w/ a lot of effort. Good chance of increasing MPG.

here's a how-to by dudeinamirage, the originator of the FP mod. I was the 3rd person to try the mod. It should give you a basic idea, if it's close to a mirage tank.

I don't know if the lancer will be simple as the eclipse, just taking out the back seats and opening the tank reserve.

that seems fine and dandy, but why risk the warranty on your engine for a fuel pump? If you are just tinkering and messing around, sounds cool, but i wouldnt jeopardize the integrity of my car off a whim. Best of luck and i hope your install goes well, let us know if you get any substancial performance off the modification.

Both the same.

We take our time to try on mods that eclipse GSX has already done. Performance theories should almost be the same . . . we based our theories from www.vfaq.com (a heck a lot better than how things work). Vfaq is the original testbed, and later we refine it for our application. Of course, it's a trickle down effect.

As for MPG, my car is a auto tranny that can get 24 MPG stock . . . going berzerk speed most of the time will net me a lost to 20 MPG for a small tank.

Just intake, header, and FP, I was more consistent at 26 MPG. 25 MPG was my lowest at berzerk speed.

Then, many mods later and tuning, I netted an average of a whopping 28-32 MPG in the city and +38 MPG on the HWy. Heck, I competed MPG against manuals. Not many auto can gain modest amount HP w/ an ever increasing MPG.

Good luck.

Unless, he had bought extended warranty. mitsu's engine warranty runs out at 36K or 3 yrs, whichever first.

I repeat it will not really gain HP. It will gain MPG. Example: if you merge onto the interestate at 92% throttle, it will take GSX FP only at 80-85% throttle to produce the same speed. No wasted energy. Now, at 100% throttle on a GSX FP, you'll bog slightly from maxing the injectors out from richness.

well i'm having this problem that after cruising for a while on the freeway i'd give it some WOT action and i'd get a o2 voltage of .84v. and i mean low throttle at 70 mph for at least 30 mins before flooring it to wake me up a little. i'd maybe understand if it was .88v or maybe .89v. and i can never really get cruising voltage to swing from .1-.92. i can only get it to swing from .1-.80. my safc is already at +35% on my lo throttle setting. so i guess i'm looking for some fuel mods.

The GSX will make up the fuel curve. Drop the AFC setting a bit.

.84v at +35% . . . wow, that's huge. At what rpm? Post your setting.

At cruising spd, it should bounce around a bit.

lo hi
1k 33 33
2k 34 32
3k 35 31
4k 35 31
4.5k 35 31
5k 35 31
6k 35 31
7k 35 31

this is with 47psi on a rpw fpr. being in the 30+ makes me feel like i'm probably maxing out my injectors so i'm kinda scared of going past this when dudeinamirage said i'd be in the 26-27 range.
