questions on lancer oz

I am going to get a use lancer oz, it's an automatic, but it had a aftermarket exhuast and intake on it. Is that hurt the engine or the car if it have a aftermarket exhuast on an automatic (someone tell me that will hurt the car)? The exhuast is too loud, what kind of muffler should i get to make the sound lower? Is it very expensive to mantain a lancer? ok, let's talk about the car now, the car had 5800 miles on it, the alarm is broke, and the night linght in the transmission (the gear) is not working, and the interstice in the middle engine had lil oil around, is it normal or the interstice should be very dry? should i get this car for around 7000? hopefully you guys understand my questions and have someone to answer my quesiton.

make it easier, I have a image relate to my important question.

see the image i highlight? there's lil oil and dust around the lip. Is this normal or there's problems with the car?

1. No, why would an exhaust hurt the car? All it does is direct gas away from the engine.
2. "Too loud" is a subjective term, your best bet is to listen to other people's exhaust systems and see what you like.
3. No.
4. I don't know what you are talking about. What the hell is a interstice?
5. No idea depends on what the car is worth to you.

No intake and exhaust will not hurt the car doesnt matter if it is automatic or manual. The only time they can hurt is if air filter on the intake is not cleaned/replaced or the exhaust diameter is too big which will cause some powerloss. I would recommend magnaflow muffler and stay with the stock piping for nice, deep sound. Exhaust might be too loud it the headers are installed so check on that as well. And no it is not expensive to maintain a lancer if you take care of it. Now 5800 miles lancer for 7000 sounds little fishy to me as the price is too low. I am assuming that there is probaly major damage done to the transmission (Could be wrong.....). If i were you, i would run a car fax and have my mechanic look at the car/test drive it b4making any deals. Hope this helps a little. Good luck with the purchase !!!

Hurt the car

The only way an intake will hurt the car depends on the enviroment you drive in. Like in florida CAI is risky because it rains here to much also some areas flood alot due to the water cannals that run all through florida. Most Aftermarket (AF) CAI's put the filter is where it will get water the most and water in the intake is a very bad thing. As for the exhaust, its like the other guys say too large of an exhaust will cause a lost of HP and back pressure. As for the loud sound, Its sweet music to the ears of the beholder, if you dont like the noise most AF Exhaust systems come with a silencer thats fits in the outlet so find out which exhaust you have and ask the guy here for a silencer as most of us take that crap out cuz we love da noise . From what I read it dont sound like you bought the car yet 7k for a 58k Lancer OZ thats about a little on the low end for an 02-03 OZ have the car checked out by an official Mitsu Dealer b4 buying or if u bought it already still take it there. Most of them are good guys and wont try to rip you off like sportmitsubishi. Last to maintain it is like sleeping not a big thing to do. Love yo Lancer man.

Not much. Most common problems all have factory recalls on them. Take the car to a dealership (any dealership) and have them check to see if anything needs to be updated. There's a handful of recalls (ECU, A/C knob, etc).

Otherwise, the cars are fine. There's no common problems that everyone complains about.

blacksheep is right. The Lancer is a pretty solid car overall. especially for a daily driver.. If your lookin for crazy performance the Lancer isnt really your car.

Thanks for adding that pic, that's kinda what I thought you meant. That would be the headgasket area. Not a good thing to have leaking, and probably the first I've seen on the boards here. If in fact it is leaking, it'll need to be replaced. Ask for at least $700-$1000 off the price and do it yourself. But I'm guessing you probably don't have the experience. So take it to a shop for replacement.

NO. It's not the headgasket.

The head gasket is between the shortblock and the head. If it was going bad, he'd have coolant leaking.

The area circled is between the head and the valve cover. It's probably just a bad gasket, which is like a $10 fix.
