sorry im in australia. is the oz lancer like the gli over here which is the basic lancer.. then it goes gsr then evo.
people who are giving crap to guys driving basic cheaper lancers shouldnt be in a forum like this in the first place. some of us, especially the younger people like myself cant afford the best lancers money can buy. however we do love lancers. i love everything about them....and always have loved lancers since seeing the rally australia back in like 96. Everyone else down here my age loves commodores and falcons... but i saved all my own money and bourght a nice looking old lancer.. the best lancer my money could get me. i dont complain, sure i would rather an evo but it wont just be handed down to me on a plate.
i come here cause i love evo's and i like to hear people talking about them and what they have done to theirs.. i know i wont get one for years.. and years and i know people wont want to look at photo's of my slow bad looking lancer. however i feeel the best Lancer i can afford, is the best car I can afford !... and im proud of my savings and the car i have, although its probably the worst lancer in the forums... i still love it!

Funny... I remeber my buddy and I coming back from Colorado in my loaded down stock OZ. We were cruising along with two other buddies in the civic ex.... got a little bored bumped it up to 110, **note: done at dawn with nobody else on the road** the civic stayed with me, 120... he was still there...130... I met up with him a few minutes later at the gas station... he wanted to drive my car the rest of the way... he couldn't hang on the hills either? Neither could the V8's... those that doubt the potential of the 02 Lancer probably don't have much to base their assumptions on other than reviews... done by someone that gets paid to write, not to drive. As far as the debate on civic vs. lancer... I'd choose a Lancer anyday... and everyday!

And a hearty hello to evoposer. You should never have to say you're sorry for being from Australia. IMHO it's easily in the top 3 coolest places to live that I don't. Oh yeah, and we need more international members! Go recruit your friends!

we don't know what a gli is. The O.Z. is simply a base Lancer 2.0L SOHC with upgraded 15" wheels by O.Z. 120Hp/127lbft. of Torque, (am I off with the torque number anybody know?) it has ground effects and a sharper looking spoiler, there are several pictures in the registry of OZ's but no GLI's.

Why I bought it
I'm sure there are nicer cars....not many come to mind..and if they did, they are WAY too expensive for me to afford. As far as used cars, I think a corvette was mentioned? Well, unless the car is nearly new, the only financing available from most banks is like 3 or 4 years..depending on the year model. so take $20,000 over 3 years and compare to a new car at $20,000 over 5 years and look at the difference in payments.
Anyways, I love my Lancer. A co-worker just bought a spec-v. It is a nice car, but honestly, the suspension is so stiff, it rides like a horse and buggy. we went over some railroad tracks the other day, and I thought i was in my 86 Z28 again. Plus, I bought the Lancer in October. The only other choices i saw were the Mazda MP3 and the Subaru WRX ($10,000 higher price tag). I liked the Lancer better than the MP3 and couldn't afford the WRX. I'm happy with my purchase as all of you lancer owners are. I won't be getting an EVO unfortunately, because I can't afford that either.

I have to admit something here, I would have rather been in an Mp3..they are 2.2L i believe DOHC, mazdaspeed is a good company also
but mitsu's financing was too good, it's foolish but for a year I have the option to spend money above payments on my car, by my first one I'll have a sicker car than a mp3 so the timing was just right.

I'm with you Rooster, they made that 0 0 0 financing too easy... I didn't even have a solid job! That MP3 is nice but 2 grand over the OZ sticker... I would have never been able to afford it.
