02-03 Lancer OZ vs 08 Lancer DE
No offense to any Lancer owners prior to the 08, but I never liked any of the Lancers until now.
Econoboxes always comes to mind when I look at them.
I find it hard to believe this thread was started comparing a modded Lancer to a stock 08 Lancer. That's unfair.
The 'MODDED' Lancer does looks good. The 08 Lancer is barely modded. That is still, virtually a stock 08. So it's lowered an inch. Big deal. The car still looks good.
That too me doesn't classify as the 08 modded. There are hardly any parts for the car just until now.
But both of those cars stock? The 08 wins.
The car's chassis is better then the current EVO now. What does that tell you on it's handling alone? The design itself has vastly improved compared to boxshaped cars. You guys are saying that a rock can fly smoother then a dart. It might be faster, but it will be wreckless.
I have NEVER seen a stock lancer prior to the 08 that looks aggressive. I don't see it at all.
Beauty is the eye of the beholder, but come on.
They only become aggressive looking with an entire bumper swap.
The 08 Lancer just has a 2 pieces of plastic at the bottom to give it more definition. Give the 08 a chance to come with parts and kits, and then start talking yang. If there was a plethora of kits and parts for the 08, then get the same parts that the 'MODDED' one has and see what goes down.
oh yeah, I didn't know the Mirage was considered a Lancer. I thought it was known as a Technica. I lived in Tokyo for 5 years and I have never heard of a Mirage as a Lancer.
The 4dr version was called the Fiore, and the American version was known as the Dodge Colt, Plymouth Champ, In the Far East toward the Australia as the Mirage Panther.
So the Mirage guy, nope. Different car.

If this were a comparo between the GTS and the OZ ( yes, i know it's not ) i would have to say that it's a tie for me....... having said that - i love the look of my '03 and i enjoy driving it every day. ( well not really since i'm in the middle east right now )
uhhh considering the 08 lancer is now SOLD OUT in the US in GTS trim i think america has just decided for you whats better

5th gen mirage/lancer > over any lancer since then
i would like to see an 08 vs an 02-03 OZ on handling, since the OZ has a sport tuned suspension and is about 300 pounds lighter.
As for visual modifications i dont see them being big for the 08+ lancers. The 02-03 lancers were basic cars and were easy to build off of with it being so close to its big brother. a modded 02-03 will look better anyday than a 08, but stock for stock the 08 lancer was made to attract and turn heads so it beats the ol' OZ.
depends what u like, IMO EVO IX > EVO X

interestinmoro,
This is where i got that info.
Your right it is a Lancer, but a Lancer Fiore.
I stand corrected on that. But there was quite a few difficulties with all the changes the Mirage was going through. Go ahead and check it out, it was quite a fiasco.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Mirage
But the Fiore is a 4dr version of the Mirage.
The name didn't start gettin confusing until the past 10 1/2 years. 1990's +
Apologies to any moderators.
But i still stand by my opinion on the 2 cars posted here.

This will turn into the age old question. I prefer a stock 02-03 oz over any 08 lancer. I just like the smaller boxy look of the 02-03. The 08 front is very aggressive and puts the front of previous lancers to shame but the roof line and entire rear of the car makes me want to puke to be honest. Hideous. I dunno if any rear kit will be able to fix it. Its just too dam tall. Adding a tall wing makes it even worse. It works on the evo X because the car is wider which offsets the height.
02-03 do not have "sport tuned susp".... They have your basic susp mods that a car comes with. Its just the ES has **** poor suspension.

A wide bodykit would be sweet! Personally though I don't mind the trunk height, I hate my pink looking tailights. Back to the subject though it really is a matter of taste and for me the 02-03 is an outdated look. It really does have a 90's car look to it. I chose my 08 over 3 or 4 other cars mainly for the styling. Can't wait for some mean body parts to come out for it.
The way I look at it stock for stock would be: 02/03 - looks slow, is slow.. 08 - supposed to look fast, not fast enough for its looks.
In which case if one looks slower than the other, I'd rather have the slower looking one, then make it faster than the slow, fast looking one.
Let me know if I lost ya there on that one.
Cliffnotes: 02/03 REPRESENT!

ok....how about this?
Why not a fast looking one now and make it faster then it looks?

i think your lost on that one.

But, no. I'm not lost on that one. If anything my sight is finally clear
ahhh. ok. understood.
A matter of preference.
I for one, personally don't care for the element of surprise when it comes to driving.
Never needed to surprise anyone.
Just depends on your necessities, yes?
More like I would rather have a sharp looking whip that can go fast.
That's just me, tho.
