02-03 Lancer OZ vs 08 Lancer DE
Wow you guys could argue for ages which would look better, but nobody's gonna give ground. It's purely opinion.
The 08 is a much more aggressive car than the 02-03 model, especially stock. When I see a stock ES driving around I can't think of anything but a grandma's car. I personally love the look of a modded lancer though, with a few parts swapped I think it looks very stylish. I would choose mine (i'm talking aesthetics, not power) over an 08 any day if I could ever get some coilovers, but this whole paragraph is my opinion, no 08 owner is gonna agree with me

ahhh. ok. understood.
A matter of preference.
I for one, personally don't care for the element of surprise when it comes to driving.
Never needed to surprise anyone.
Just depends on your necessities, yes?
More like I would rather have a sharp looking whip that can go fast.
That's just me, tho.

done deal. Only thing I dont like about the 08 is the rear... i like the 02-03 rear more... the 04 and 06 rear is better than the 02-03 but the front is ****ty and it looks like its smiling. 08 front is like a luxury agressive with an ugly ***.
i like the 08s ***, but i do think it would look better without the wing. then again, i'm an "all class" or "all-functionality" guy who realizes that making the 08 lancer put out anything above 180 hp is well out of my financial ability.
find a white 08 lancer and look at it in person from the back straight on, then tell em you don't like it.
this is 100% based on personal opinion making arguing like little internet homos absolutely worthless, yet seemingly inevitable.
02-06 lancers i know of are all owned by immature ricers, old people who can't afford to retire, or really young people who needed a really cheap car.
the 08 says 1 thing to me- technologically advanced.
sadly, though, i think the way of the tuner is fading- it isn't as popular as it used to be, and with extremely complex computer electronics becoming a larger and larger part of the new sport compact picture, the guys like me who learned to change spark plugs from their dads who worked on 1959 chevy trucks are soon no longer gonna be able to improve their cars performance without spending thousands on an aai education.
^really long sentence that was, now that i look at it, totally off-topic.

i agree, hence MY reason for buying one. Picked up the CVT simply because of the advanced engineering and comfort over it's predecessors.
And no one is really arguing here, its an opinion, i think the argument starts happening when a person is trying to 'convince' people with their opinion.
oh well, the new 08 for me.

I have looked at a white 08 in person. still cant stand the rear. "Tuners" arnt fading in any way. I think the rage of crazy enourmous kits and all that jaz from fast and the furious 10 years ago is fading away. Big difference. As long as there are cars there will allways be car guys. As far as working on a car. Doesnt matter how technologically advanced it is. People learn to work on their own equipment. I dont see the new 08 as being any more of a "middle age" car as you see it. I think it is still young people buying these cars. Just more of them since Mitsus marketing was much greater with this model.
I don't think tuning is dying, all the people that are growing out of it are being replaced by fresh teens that just saw Tokyo Drift. Car modification isn't going to die down, because for some reason people always have the need to go faster and look better. If you want to know what I think is dying down, it is rice. There is still a big pressence, but people are going for that "JDM clean" look now, so gaudy kits and neons are being dumped for a lip and a drop.

There's always going to be rice. Just changes in what rice is. Depending on who you ask, rice will always be "making it look faster than it is" or "making it gay."
And no matter what, if you ask a guy in an IROC with a mullet, rice will be anything that came over on a boat...
mods or no mods I just personally like the styling of the 02-03 lancers because it really sets it apart from other cars.
This is funny because when I just went to drop off my car to get it re-tinted the guy goes what kind of lancer is it?, the new one?
I go no, an 03.
He said, oh so the good one.

Depends on where you are, around here rice is still going strong. While I helped my dad move his office today I saw tons of fart cans (including one on a lancer ES) and ungodly body kits (best was a red sunfire with a hood scoop and two twin-tip mufflers, one stock, one aftermarket).
Honestly, I would never have even considered buying a Lancer, except when I saw the 08 GTS. It's all a matter of personal preference. Personally, I think the previous Lancer's are one of the ugliest cars made.
A Lancer is a Rally Car, so it should stick to looking like one.
Would you prefer a rally car to look like an RX7 or Ferrari... It would be a bit ridiculous wouldnt it?
Even the early Porsches in Rally, were less sleek, and higher off the ground, than the Porsches were used to seeing today.
The Evo is boxy, the STi is boxy, Peugot, Ford Focus, etc.. none of them are like the UFO's people drive nowadays.
Personally, I like the boxy look, just for that reason.. Rally Heritage.
(Aside from that, I wonder if Mitsu. has any plans to include the New Lancer in WRC; seeing as they replaced the EVO with an ES, the last couple years.)
This arguments kinda silly.
