Awaiting the death of my 02 OZ, things that start breaking...
96k and running pretty strong. The expansion valve is getting replaced this week. Other than only having about 20 minutes of AC at a time (which really sucks in Florida) it runs great. There is a slight split second dip in power under hard acceleration that I haven't investigated yet because it only happens every now and then and I don't have the money to investigate it right now. Maybe a misfire, maybe the auto not getting factory fluid when it was flushed. It's infrequent. My key to Lancer longevity is that I didn't have very much money when I bought the car so as things have worn out, I've upgraded them. And I don't yet really have any worn mods.
My key to Lancer longevity = oil, pressure, spark, fuel, keep all four checked and you shouldn't have any issues.

I agree the key to longevity is basic maintenance plus a little more. Don't wait for when the tranny oil needs to be replaced, do it when you think it should be done. If you think the plugs are old, replace them. A lot of people sit on their *** and wait for things to break/show signs of a problem before they address them, and that's what kills cars. I can't complain about my car at all, sure it squeaks and rattles but it also puts up with everything I throw at it.

Another thing to consider for a long lasting car is suspension. If you really rag on the car, don't be surprised if the struts start to go even with the stock springs.

103k for me. Third owner of the vehicle. Mostly all highway miles. Lets see, my joints are whining a little bit, had to replace control arms and other alignment issues. Fixed cvjoint, replace spark plug wires and coil packs, and right now i am waiting for my slave cylinder/tob to come in so i can replace that as well. The only reason why i keep this car, is because of gas mileage. It gets me from point a to point b. But other than the little "expensive" issues, she's great.
