Talking Saw an EVO 7 in SoCal

While cruising home near Irvine Ca, I caught what looked like a yellow Lancer with vents in the hood. Following closely, I noticed that it had the word "Evolution" on the trunk. I managed to catch up to it at a light and it was full of 5 kids who were obviously having a good time. I asked if it was indeed an EVO 7 and they said it was,
but not the US model which will be available "next year" . They said
it was the Euro version which they had "borrowed" from Mitsubishi for a little joy ride. It had "distributor" plates on it and I got the impression that they were either Mitsi employees or relatives thereof. They said that everything you've heard about it is true. When I asked if it had 280 hp the response was "at least!" . Finally, they pealed out with amazing rapidity into a left turn as if it was mounted on rails.

I was impressed how much better it looked in person than the Lancer,
or even the photos I've seen. A remarkable car.

was it LHD or RHD?

Stories like this make me feel good. There is a lot of stuff like that running around in souther cal. I guess we can assume it is running fine on US 91 octane?

yes mr. mitsu....that explains why my neighbor ( well he lives in the general vicinity) had an evo for like 1 week...the only time i saw it was at night when i snuck up to his house one day and was in awe as i found out it was actually an evo...true story but other people had problems believing me.
