STi or EVO
Hello to all!
OK, I am trying to find good information about those two cars. I know you guys are very knowledgeable in the subject. So, if you could post reasons why I should or should not buy any of those cars. There is, if in fact they become available in the US, it would be great.
Thanks,
Fred

It can't really be answered yet, since the specs for both models haven't actually been released. Just remember this is a Lancer forum so most answers would be biased. It really comes down to which one you prefer.
Assuming they're similar to Japanese specs, the Evo would be a more track oriented car while the Sti is more everyday oriented car. The Sti understeers a little more, but has a more compliant ride. Then there's also the look of the car... I find the Evo to look much better, but some people really like the new Subaru design.

Haven't tried an STI WRX but thus far all the vids I've seen on this matchup have been in favor of the Evo. There was a BM vid last year where they pitted an R34 GT-R, Evo 7 RS, RX-7 against a 360 Modena, Vette ZR1 (?not sure?) and a 911 Turbo (!) The E7 was in the lead at the beginning but came in third behind the 911 Turbo and the R34! Predictably the E7 just couldn't hold back the charging 911 in the straights.
Still not a bad result. :headbng2:

damn those are some scrweed up results...the modena nad rx7tt shoulda been able to rape the evo easily and the skyline. well actually not sure about the handling of the rx7 but i know damn sure that ferrari shoulda been 2nd behind the porsche. thsoe guys needa learn how to drive!
That short race took place on a short closed circuit and had rained earlier on in the day. A lot of that disadvantage that the 2WD's in that race had to do with the poor start in a relatively short race. Starting position was also a factor so that meant the big buck Modena started in the backfield with the 911 Turbo.
Great racing action and incidentally if you want to see it, it's on Best Motoring International #3.
For some reason they decided to leave the new age STi out of the race?

You have no idea how slow a Modena is!

if u consider 0-62 in low to mid 4s and a 1/4 in mid to high 12s slow...THEN YEAP THATS SLOW. the evo does like 0-60 in a little over 5...and a little over 13 in the 1/4....NOW THATS MUST BE **** POOR IF THE MODENA IS SLOW. A 13 SECOND CAR MUST BE A SNAIL IF A 12 SECOND CAR IS SLOW. -thx

You may survive it, never said you necessarily die. My point was that it's pretty ridiculous to buy a car for USD 150.000 or so and get trashed by an Evo.
The modena has excellent aerodynamics though, no upforce at 150 mph in the front or back. Perfect for going straight on the highway. Much "faster" than an Evo...

Penguin, you quoted a plus 5 second time for the Evo 0-60, you must be talking Evo 7 here as a slightly modified 6 does it in 4.4 easily. Actually that's the official time in a test of the 6 by Autocar and they said the car was standard, but it probably wasn't. You're talking about fast in a STRAIGHT line...hehehehe, who gives a s*&% about that? On a track with bends and medium size corners the Evo should beat the 360, and that only if the 360 is driven by a really good driver. Now, modify the 6 with a good suspension etc. and the 360 doesn't stand a chance, even if it has a new suspension as there isn't as good suspensions made for the 360 as for the Evo. Maybe Jan could elaborate on the driving characteristics of a 360 as they thrashed one about for a day? All I can say is that he wasn't too impressed with the handling...
