Exclamation 2003 Evo 8s are RARE?!

Anyone here able to confirm or deny that the 2003 Evos will only come to the US in numbers as few as 4,000?! That is VERY exclusive if that is true. That is 2x as many as Porsche 911s, but that is also 4x the number of Acura NSXs. Given the car is 1/2 the price of the 911 and 1/4 the cost of the NSX that just about makes sense from a limited production standpoint. I had no idea that these were being made in such limited quantity. WOW!

Anyone heard this too?

Well, I have yet to see one on the road, excepting the 3 that came to the last Northeast meet. Heck, I even saw an STI on the road yesterday up here, but still no Evos.

Supposedly there are fewer cars that came here than was originally thought.. Mitsubishi probably could build as many as they want, but since the line is a specialty line, I think their max production per year would be 13000 cars, approx 1/2 for the world market, and the rest for the US market.. SUPPOSEDLY.. I think production is actually much lower, and I think the total numbers is somewhere between 4500 and 5000 cars this year (for the US market)

Ok.. now that we've pointed out the obvious that has been discussed umpteen times.. For an incredibly rare car compared to other 'production exotics'.. I actually have seen QUITE a few evo's (mine excluded) where I am from.. But in truth, the environment I see them is pretty artificial, Its a typical cruise night, and last weekend there were 3 of us.. and this past weekend, there was myself and a white one. (I think I did actually spot a blue STi also, but I think it might have just been a bodywork upgrade of an older car, I didn't get a good look at the nose) in the "Wild" I think I've spotted evo's on a dealer lot, and twice on the streets.. I'm fairly certain the two spottings were of the same silver car.

Just to give you a comparison.. I've spotted more E55 AMG Mercedes, and more Vipers on the road in this short period of time. I've even seen more Ferraris and spotted 3 Lambo Diablos in this same period..

Go figure.. I can honestly say that I've been cleaning up with this car and a few simple mods.. people are just now beginning to realize the capabilities of this car.. I suspect that is the reason fewer people are coming out of nowhere and wanting to 'play around' Though I did have a guy in a WRX (Modified??) give me a nice run last night, I won with a soggy clutch burning launch, and a 1/2 and 2/3 shift bounce off the rev limiter.. Whoops.. off topic..

Thanks guys. Belive me, the Evo is no Porsche 911 Twin Turbo, but it is the most fun that 4 adults can have with their clothes on.

I can think of 2 reasons mainly
1) diff location, you live in long island, more rich people, of course, more "show off" car, I don't know if anyone buys an Evo just to show they have the money, because they're not expensive nor that flashy. I've definitely seen more Evos here in Madison than Ferarris, Lambos, or even Benz with an AMG badge.
2) Evos only been out for around half an year, and all others could be different year models.

Spot the Evo

I live in Chicago. I bought my yellow evo in mid-April from a dealer who said that he will get eight cars this year. He said that his initial shipment was five and that he will get three more later this year.

I went back to the dealer last week. There were three Evo's on the lot. I spoke to one of the salesman and he told me that they just sold one to a guy who only plans to race it on tracks. He said that they are still awaiting their second shipment of three cars. I did the math and I said, "Wait. You've only sold two cars"? and the guy nodded.

I second the earlier post about seeing other "rare" cars. I see all kinds of exotics, but I can count the Evo's I've seen on one hand.
