It will be up there, but not nearly as high as say a Z28 or Mustang GT. And the US Evo should be just as fast...not to mention drive circles around them both in terms of handling

is it due to the performance of the evo, or to the theft rate of the evo?

I don't know how insurance companies work in other countries...but here I know that they take all things into consideration when making insurance rates on a car. (i.e., crash test performance, HP, engine size, size of car, number of doors, airbags, ABS, alarm, etc.)

They can't judge the US Evo in terms theft rate, especially when the car is not even here yet...maybe after a year they will have some stats on theft.

I thought you were getting a Z06??? Or is this a different Steve C in Denver??? The one I know drives a BMW M Coupe that shouldn't have any problem with most of the Mustangs around here, nevermind freakin Neons of "Cavs" as you put it...

Soleman,
Insurance will be UP there...AND it WILL be just as high or higher than a Mustang or Camaro. High hp small cars with turbos are always among the highest. You know it will be more than the current WRX (which is commonly more expensive to insure than a Mustang GT).
If you're 18 and want an Evo, expect to pay 275+ a month in insurance....wanna make any bets on it ?

I got a quote from Geico on a 2002 WRX...I think it was something like $3,100 per year (NYC area)...I don't see how a 4 door, 4 cyl. car would be more than a sports car with a 5.7 liter engine and over 300 horse. We need someone who works for an insurance company. Hey HobieKopek...ask your pops for us!

Doubt it. I have a 95 Camaro Z28 right now and I ran a check through on a 02 wrx and it's much lower then what I' paying currently. Now a wrx is not a evo but it shows you how they are thinking about 4 door, 4 bangers. My car is expensive to insure and I can't imagen what a 02 Z28 would be like but the fact that mines a 95 and a 02 wrx still is much cheaper says something. The worst might be it's equal to what I'm paying now and if so, so what.

Yeah, just as I suspected. A '95 is costing you a lot....and thats a 7 year old car. An '02 would be murder.

I think the Evo will be relatively cheap compared to cars that perform in the same league. A big factor for the Evo is the fact that it will be a $30,000 car, the more expensive the car, the more expensive it is to insure.

I have an article from Sports Car International that the dealer gave me that mentioned the EVO and other rally homologation cars in the UK are very susceptible to theft and carjacking. The article goes on to say

"They are stolen not only because of their popularity, but because they are seen as the perfect get-way vehicle. They don't draw a lot of attention because they look like other subcompacts on the road, they offer plenty of interior space for fellow criminals, large trunks foor loot and, of course, they're exceedingly fast"

This may have a lot to do with high insurance in UK.
