to keep my 08 GTS or not to keep...

so I am thinking of selling my 08 GTS CVT. got it the week these cars came out with every option. Now I am thinking of selling it. I haven't really looked into whats available to do to these cars. How are these motors responding to mods? I'm going to list the pro's and con's about the car.

PRO'S:
Navigation with the cool music hard drive.
Cool looks.

CONS:
Ugly tail lights.
CVT is slow as hell.
car in general is slow as hell.
27 mpg on the interstate... wtf?

I've thought about keeping it and putting money into it, but I am wanting to get something that can be a true contender at my local road course track in Hastings, NE. Something like an 05 GTO, S2000... I'd like to see what the Lancer is capable of but don't want to put alot of money into something that could of gone towards another car that would respond better to mods.

Car has 20k miles on it and brand new tires. Car is in great condition, maybe some slight road rash on the wheels. If I end up trying to sell it what have they been going for?

All of your cons are either on the window sticker of the car or something that could have easily been discovered with a test drive. So, if you do trade it in, you may want to pay attention to what you're purchasing the next time.

20k miles is a lot for a car that's been out for less than a year, so between that and 's notoriously low resell value, you're trade-in price might be pretty disappointing. Although, the fact that the 2008 Lancer is a pretty hot car right now may be a good bargaining chip.

And the fact is that we don't know how well the 4B11 responds to modding simply because there aren't a lot of mods to market yet...if you decide to keep the car (which I think you should...otherwise you're going to get a nasty case of sticker shock from the trade-in value) you're going to have to be patient while companies finish up R & D on all of their goodies.

You should have at least bought the MT. Oh well, it's your car man. In the end, it's your decision. You can probably trade it in for an older but better car of your liking. (used evo, used Z, used s2k etc.)

I originally got the Lancer for economical reasons. It was a hot car and the dealer gave me a great deal on my trade in (2005 Nissan Titan with 22's, 35 inch tires and 8 inch lift)... so I went for it. I was also looking at a new civic si but the dealer didn't offer me a great deal on the trade in, so i just went for the Lancer. And the dealer told me I'd have no problem getting mid 30's mpg on the highway cuz the new EPA standard is lowballing everything i guess... i dunno exactly what the deal is, but i am NOT getting mid 30 miles a gallon... I'm not even getting the 29 on the sticker! My brother's 500+ horsepower Cadillac CTS-V gets the same highway mileage i get... thats messed up. And i do a ton of highway driving.

sooo... main reason i got the car was for economic reasons, like i said, but i don't feel like its doing that great and I might as well be driving around a sports car.

and i've already been told i'd only get around 15 or so trade in. not a big shock. I bought a brand new BMW M3 in 2004 for 60 grand and traded it in the next year for 40...

you might as well keep it, youll take a huge hit if you try to trade it in now. especially if you have already put 20k miles on it, where do you drive to rack that many miles on it so soon?

get rid of it while you can and get a real car. by the sound of it your looking for a fast good handeling sports car.

i would trade it in for a used evo or s2000

I don't know what did you expect from a 4 cylinder 152HP econo-car WITH A CVT TRANNY but it's your choice, also, for $22K (thats about how much a new decked out GTS costs) would never expect a car to compete on performance levels of Evo, 350 Z, or Caddy CTS-V. Basically what you got is a $15K car with optional high-tech equipment, but performance is still just a $15K car.

As far as fuel consumtion goes, I don't know how are your driving habits but I have heard a lot of people get over 30MPG on highway and 25MPG on average. And Cadillac CTS-V may get the same gas mileage as Lancer but only if sitting idle I know how those American cars love gas.

Friend of mine has a 2007 Tahoe, sticker said about 17 MPG and the guy gets like 11.5 MPG, all that cylinder shut off crap is just marketing ploy, doesn't really work in everyday driving.

Anyway, if you don't like it, sell it or trade it...

it all comes down to what you want to do, it really doesnt matter what we say. you made a mistake buying a gts(cvt at that) and your ready for something better. by all means get something better b/c in the end its your choice not ours. me personally i would suck it up and wait till its paid off to get something else but thats me, i dont like to feel that im throwing my money away.
