The new diesel and non evo turbo Lancer

I asked about it here.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=305180

I had just read that in a magizene.
Now I'm in the Dallas area going to Mitsu training, and I asked the instructors about there being a diesel in the new lancer. They said it will be an 09 model and it's a 2.2l turbo deisel.
They also said the new lancer ralliart is going to be the non evo turbo model. It will be AWD.

No rumurs or he said she said. Straight from the horse's mouth.

I didn't think/realize that the diesel was destined for the US. Will it be a 5 door or still a 4 door sedan?

That's what I though also!!!

Another tech I work with says that as soon as we get one of those 2 he's buying one. Probably diesel.

I don't know if this is true, but I'v heard that it's a VW diesel engine. Something to do with laws somewhere else. I have no clue if it's true though. The dealer I work at is Mitsu/VW so I work on both. We don't know anything about the new diesel coming out(all ours right now are 1.9l or 2.0l) BUT I can say that VW powertrains are bullit proof. Just everything around the engine/trans sucks. haha

I would still take this with a grain of salt. Until Mitsubishi unveils the cars and shows they'll be sold in North America, I wouldn't go out and put any deposits down. Dealerships up here were saying we'd get the evo 8 for god's sake.

Yeah, there's a big difference in a dealership, and these guys. Anyone at a dealer is employed by that dealer. I work for Gene Messer(owned by group one). These guys work for Mitsubish Motors North America. MMNA. They see WAY more stuff than ANY one at a dealership would have a clue about.
But I do understand what you're saying.

A turbodiesel makes a lot of sense - with the gas prices going the way they are. It would have to be "clean diesel" though - be sold in NY and CA.

Turbo Diesel would be nice...crazy awesome gas mileage, less pollution, and no crappy ethanol mixed in.

I would be shocked if the turbo diesel came here. Hell we don't get most of the diesel cars available in other parts of the world.

my thoughts exactly especially after u add propane injection...

for example i get 11mpg in my rover LR3. if i had the TTV8 diesel from the uk w/propane injection i could get an AVERAGE of 47mpg. that's around 1000miles per tank so i would only have to fill up once a month instead of once a week!!

i was also hoping that we could get the Smart Car over here with the turbodiesel. instead, the US will get the Smart w/a Mitsu made 1liter 3B21 3 cyl n/a engine.

I think all of this is really unlikely. Why would Mitsu put so much on the table for one line / techinically 2 lines of cars, the Lancer and EVO. the Lancer is has so many HELLSPAWN that I am forgetting what a real lancer is suppost to be anymore.

Buyers want options and Mitsu is finally giving a greater selection of options within their best selling model. Look at the competitors. Honda, for example, has 12 different versions of the Civic, with 1 more due for production next year.

Also, we've already known for awhile that the 2.4L AWD turbo was coming to the US in 08. The diesel is news for the US, but Mitsubishi had already announced that there's to be a 5 door diesel Lancer for the European/Aussie markets.
