AMS EVO X / 08 Lancer CF roof Pictures

Well the day finally came. We got our first AMS EVO X Carbon fiber roof done up. Just like our unit for the EVO VIII this guy is Strong and light. Its only a little under a pound lighter then the factory non sunroof unit but it is of course extremely strong and will be a nice addition for any sunroof or non sunroof car.

This will also fit on a Lancer and will add the cool EVO Ribs on the outside edge of the roof

I will have the available to order in the next couple of days

On with the pictures!

Installed pics soon to come!

Eric

Dumb question - how is it only a pound lighter? Is the stock roof that light? Or did you need to beef the CF unit up to withstand driving force?

Aluminum is very light material. I don't know why they won't build light aluminum parts like door skins.

The stock roof is very light, even lighter than the EVO VIII alluminum roof. I forsee our biggest buyers of these being people with sunroof cars and Ralliart Lancer owners as they will have steel roofs.

Ok, here's another dumb question; would it be possible to get one of these with the sunroof hole so that we can keep our factory sunroof?

i’m sure it’s possible…but honestly i wouldn’t even bother.
first of all, cutting into CF is pretty much a sin, and it might mess around with the structural balance of the whole piece…you never know right?
if you want to keep your factory sunroof and like the CF roof idea…than just go to a body shop and have them paint your roof black.

edit - i just read your sig and noticed you have a black lancer...soooooo...i donno what to say anymore...lol
edit part 2: you’re probably asking if AMS will provide it aren’t you…man, i’m out of it today…fair question then...

It would be a major waste of time. The whole point is cutting down weight. Replacing your sunroof roof with this CF version will save some pounds. Putting the sunroof back in will mean you're spending a LOT of money to cut one pound off the car...

Or perhaps they just want to have the CF look on their car. Pointless or not some people just like the looks and could care less how much weight it saves or doesn't. Same reason why people put 20's on their cars.

is the roof on the standard Lancers aluminum like on the Evo's? Just wondering out loud incase it the regular Lancers come with a steel roof panel...

Ooooooooooooh. The way AMS talked, I thought it was aluminum on both models. That makes more sense then.

in that case, even if you put the sunroof back in on a GTS then you'll still be shaving quite a bit of weight. Not as much as you would by ditching the sunroof, obviously, but still, the weight reduction on the standard Lancers would be pretty good.

Personally, even if I got a CF roof, I'd paint it to match the car... The edge lips/ridges would be enough to cue others in to it not being "normal" for my preferences
