Lancer GTS or Volkswagen GTI MKV
Ive been looking into the GTI, i like the power and interior better, but i really like the Lancers tech features.
If you had 23k to spend, on a Lancer GTS or a GTI which one would you pick?
I guess i am going on a biased board, but i wanted to hear thoughts from you guys. Ive asked the V-dub guys about the GTI too.

Well if you get the GTI, your starting price will be at the high end for a lancer GTS. Do you want a manual or automatic and do you want navigation or not? A loaded Lancer with every option will be around 23 but a loaded GTI with premium sound, nav, etc.. is gonna be like 25+ depended on if u go 2door or 4door.
If u wait another month or so u could get a loaded lancer with the TOURING PACKAGE that would add xenon HID headlights, rain sensing wipers, and traction/stability control.

since u asked between those 2 cars i would say the gti since it looks pretty good obviously you like it enough to consider it. it handles pretty well and the 2.0 t is a huge plus over the lancer the new gts 2.4. on the other hand the lancer ****s on it when it comes to looks and the tech package kills it aswell. but if u rather have a turbo and go faster and still have a decent looking car the gti is the winner to me. good luck but like others are saying if u like the look of the mazda 3 speed its def something to consider as well. when buying my lancer how fast the car goes wasnt a real concern since its a dd and it looks better to me then the gti or speed3.
I checked out the GTI before purshasing the lancer. They also had the GLI
that I got to test drive. Nice car BTW
But the VW salesperson pissed me off and I went straight to Misubishi and got my sleek Lanzaah. lol
I really like the GTI, but I think the lancer is funner to drive. That could just be me though.
I say go for It!! GTI!
Hard to choose isn't.

I would get a Mazda Speed 3 if it wasn't stick only. One reason why i have not looked at a Civic Si or Cobalt SS either. Im not sure how fast i could learn stick and if don't like it than i am out of luck.
GTI is turbo charged, and it also gets the same gas mileage as a Lancer assuming you're not going all out.
I like the design, it is something different.
Because of price i may end up in a Lancer GTS.

unless u get an evo....like me,but theres just something about euro cars.IMO they are built better, they arnt made out of cheap plastics(like most jap cars..even my evo)
test drive both cars, and make the best choice

I will, i've driven Japanese cars my whole life(Integra, Mazda 3, Mazda RX8). I like the build quality and feel of my dads BMW.

The Lancer and GTI are in completely different leagues... with that being said, if you can afford a GTI, do it.
If you can wait a couple of months for the 2009 GTI, they are getting a revised version of the 2.0T that uses a timing chain instead of a timing belt. What does this mean? In a nutshell, one of the most expensive maintenance services on most VW motors if the timing belt (should be replaced at 60k). By switching to a chain, that interval goes up to 150k+.. so in the time you change the belt 3 times, you have only changed the chain once. It is supposed to be a "lifetime chain" but we all know what that means...
And, to the guy above who said to wait for the RalliArt... at $29k and with no AYC, the RalliArt is just an overpriced WRX. The R32 is more in the leagues of the Evo X, maybe even the X MR... and it seems like the R32 would probably be out of the OPs price range. Although if you are looking to spend only $23k, a 09 GTI might be out of your price range, too.
Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead in a Lancer... but that's just me.
Oh, one other thing... VWs use cheap plastic parts just like every other car manufacturer.
