I'm someone that went from an OZ Rally -> Ralliart -> Evo. Trust me when I say, wait and get the evo. The ralliart (while a great fun dependable car) was a waste of money and I should have just got an Evo instead. You should definitely get the evo. There is no telling what issues you will run into with the turbo'd lancer. Longevity, it may not last you. While there are evos on this board with over 100k miles. The ones that never made it are the ones that crashed or modded too much

Take your money buy an FDIC insured 1 year cd. Then you won't have to worry about that money for one year and you won't be able to get it without a penalty. Plus you will make some good interest right now.

get a project car. Maybe pick up an old civic and build that up. Something that you aren't making payments on, but has potential to be fast. Also, a project car you can take your time with and not have to worry about having to finish a project so you can drive it to work the next day
I am thinking of picking up an old 4G63 Talon to satisfy my modding bug. lol.

I was kind of in the same boat about what do to next. My last car was a Mazda 3 Hatch - automatic. Had a nice peppy 2.3 that put out about 170HP. I was wanting more speed and performance and thought about buying a turbo kit.

But after figuring up all the costs, work involved, potential headaches and so forth - it only made sense to buy a car that was already "done", ready to drive now, and had a warranty.

So I sold it and bought a 2005 Evo. I stand behind my decision. You'd be better off to just sell it and buy a 2003 Evo for $18K.

also, you should trade in your lancer on a GTI. 0% financing ftw!

isnt an auto transmission better for turbo because there wont be any lag since you wont have to actually shift as in a manual?

i had a Turbo Lancer (5sp) and enjoyed it a lot, it does require a lot more attention...you be fiddling with stuff all the time.....but now i have a 508hp EVO....doest even compare....i thought of all the money i put in the lancer could of been a down payment on an EVO....

Soooooooooo. Turbo Lancers are fun, its differnt. but if you a serious about getting an EVO for sure in 1 year why waste the money on a turbo kit? i know a lot of Lancer guys (me included) always talked about getting an EVO and never do cause of insurance, payments, extra cost of everything(Oil, tyres, gas). but if you are 100% sure your going to do this in one year. save your money for the evo.

i think ima just wait and get the evo, makes alot more sense to save up the money and put a good down payemnt, and a plus is that my lancer is PAYED OFF so both the money and car will make a good down payment, thanks guys for the input

My lancer was turbo. I custom built it myself.
Honetly the 4g94 is a weak motor that dosnt last very long at all.
Mine lasted for about 7 months of boost before it blew.
They arnt designed for power. The turbo was fun to drive but the constant maintence sucked. Because something was always breaking.
If your going tobuy an evo in a year i would just wait until then.

Well I have an auto and since I'll still have the car for at least 1 1/2 years, I'm going to boost it. I know I may not have the fastest car, I just want something that's fun...
