New Car Que$tion
I have a question about digital fuel display.
I drove my car(2009 Lancer gts cvt) to 370 kms just recently. I noticed from the start that the gas meter was dropping a bit quick as a i drove it this last week. Also the 'estimated kms left' display had like 60 kms left in it, but then dropped down to nothing and warned that i needed to fill up.
The car should get 500-550 kms with the city driving that im doing.
When i went to go fill up, I could only put in 50 out of 59 L untill it was filled to the Max. So based on the Litres left in the car i could have gotten another 90-100 kms, totaling 470kms.
Does this funtion in new cars need time to adjust. Should i go to the dealership? Is this a problem or is it normal?
thanks

My gas light always comes on with 50km's left in the tank and then it just displays a line. Mine only takes 50 L as well. Your gas light should come on with 1/10 of a tank of gas left(or close to that) that's why it only takes 50 instead of 59L. If it took the exact 59L, that would mean you would have ran out of gas!

I suggest going to do the dealership, make a video of the dash warning and pumping gass and showing the reciept. that will be your evidence of the problem.
go in to the dealer and be firm

You will always get the low gas warning when there's about 9-10 liters left in the tank... What you are experiencing is normal.
Remember that the "kms left" is a big rough estimation of how many is left. You will never see less than 50km on the "kms left" screen as it assumes you need to refill when it hits that mark and thus shows "- - -" on the screen. Simply refill when it says so and call it a day.
One day, you will thank the onboard computer for not letting you run out of gas.

i dont like the fact that im trying to track the fuel economy and it was at 370km's when it told me to fill it up, but it still had 9 Litres left. So in reality that first full tank of gas would have gotten me 450kms if i waited to fill up. I also dont like the fact that the gas meter moves in bigger increments and it doesnt really show an accurate level of fuel.
I want to check the fuel economy so that i can see if i can get 500 - 550 kms on a tank of gas in the city, if i can hit that mark i will know the car is running well.

I also dont understand why every time I start up my car the average speed and average Liters per 100 kms display restarts and the avg litres per 100 kms starts off so high (40+ L/100kms) and it has to be worked down while driving...
is this normal?

Automatic reset after 4 hours of not driving the car. IIRC, you can change this setting using the in-dash multifunction display.
As for the fuel efficiency, just ignore what the meter says and do some simple math after filling up to find out what the MPG really is.
And BTW, this time of the year is not where to do mileage analysis, do them in the summer! I was easily doing 600-650km with a tank (50/50 city/hwy) during summer and I'm now at about 425-450 max. Cold weather (plus remote start
) kills MPG.

yes it is
bcuz laws of physics are that it takes more engery to move something stationary, than keep something that is already moving @ constant speed. =)
hence why city driving uses more gas (stop and go traffic)

so thats why when i start the car it starts off at like 55 L/100 kms and then starts dropping down fairly rapidly as a i drive it?
any one know how to set this funcion so it doesnt reset after u turn the car off?
