Hi guys,
I have a stock shift knob of 03 lancer oz and I couldn't manage to get the stock one out. Anyone have any instructions in helping me to do so? Greatly appreciated.

 

If it is a manual it is usually threaded and sometimes they have a locking screw on them also. Usually a small allen wrench can be used to remove the small screw. If it is an automatic...umm good luck. They are usually a little harder to replace.

 

Turn counterclockwise? That's how it should come off. Maybe wrap it in a towel then use some vise grips or something.

 

It unscrews like a lightbulb.

 

It might have some lock-tite on the threads. They do this at the factory, so it might be a little tight. But yeah, should unscrew like a lightbulb.

 

Elbow grease worked for me. Are you replacing it? If you are, take some pics of your new one.

 

I really used up all my mightiest strength to turn the knob, and I am stuck with the knob after turning 90 degree left. If there is any screws holding, where is it usually? I tried feeling the circle ring around the stick, and it feels very smooth and seems like there isn't any place for screw. I guess I might need a wrestler just to turn it out.

 

there's a little plastic ring inside that also unscrews with it.
its made of plastic and if over tightened will take some elbow grease to take off.
just keep pulling and keep twisting.

 

No screws. Try the vise grip thing. Always works with I'm trying to get things off that won't come off on their own. But make sure you wrap the knob with a towel or something, or the grips will dig in/leave grooves/possibly rip the faux leather on the knob.

If you have a manual trans then it should just screw off as everyone else has said. Ironically i never had any problems getting the stock shifter off but rather keeping the aftermarket shifter on... it had those tiny allen key screws that would just love to come loose. maybe i did it wrong... i just put the stock shifter back cuz i didn't feel like tightening it every time i went somewhere.

There's screws? I still can't manage to get it out yet. I'll try using vise onto the plastic ring tonight. Do your screws mean the screws inside the leather stock shift knob After coming out?

 

No there are sometimes small screws that require an allen wrench(key) to remove them. If your shift knob has leather or some form of cloth covering it, it is possible that it is covered up. These screws go in perpendicular to the way the knob screws on. IF it has any there is usually just 1 and they shouldn't be that hard to find. IMO ide just take a pair of vise grips and turn that sucker off. Sitting in your drivers seat you should turn it towards you not away from yourself when turning.

 

^ that depends on which side he fastens the vice grip. spin it counter clock wise.

 

I still cant get that sucker knob out.
I even went to garages/dealers and they cant turn that sucker out.
Some of the car fixers indicated that it might be my previous owner had another shift knob and tried to put that in when selling it to me. In some way, he overscrewed the knob while the knob wasn't aligned, and thus stuck in there.
Nothing I could do.......
