Turbo And NOS comparison

Why is it that a lancer cannot handle a very slight nitrous shot and can handle a turbo kit at 5 psi?! wouldnt the rods and pistons fail on a turbo just as they would on the bottle?

No. Because it's presumed that at 5psi you have enough fuel to prevent extreme heat and detonation. When you run a dry shot you're not accounting for fuel.

then u need mods to add more fuel to prevent heat and detonation (detonation = no no)

It's really the violent combustion that juice causes and the freezing effect on red hot pistons/rings that causes them to crack and blow through the side of your motor.

Well, any module or car part that can pump in more gas wit out usin turbo.. Just NOS.. Coz for now, i dont got the right cash to buy a turbo... But can get NOS... Coz i know that you need good gas pumpin for better combustion... And if you mix nos it will be better.. And another thing.. I dont wanna change my pistons YET.. Just stock, wit NOS, and some kind of module?.. A chip or SAFC??.. What do i need?

detonation usually occurs before the combustion stage, when the air and fuel are being compressed by the piston. the more the air/fuel are compressed in the piston the more chemically potential energy is created. some of this potential energy turns into heat. higher octane combusts at a higher temperature; lower octane can combust at a lower temperature.
so if u FI your car, you're changing the compression within the pistons. and if u dont use a higher min. octane rating, the fuel may combust just from the heat due to added compression.

and as what fkrzo was talking about, it may have to do with the sudden change of compression that damages the engine. turbos build up compression, while nitrous changes it nearly instantaneously
