I am not very "engine focused" thus I dont know much about how much HP certain mods will yield, although i do have a rough idea for most of em. I am more focused on the show aspect of the car, so I remain neutral in this debate. Just making sure it doesnt turn into a huge flamefest.

What kind of Dyno were you on?

Also I think those are nice track times!! What rpm are you shifting at and do you finish the 1/4 in 3rd?

I don't mean to beat this like a dead horse but all headers are not the same. I know every one with the RPW has said the same thing you can feel a big difference with them. That's pretty much all I have at this time.

Ps. Fkrzo what gear did you dyno in? 3rd or 4th? Just trying to get an idea of the situation.

Dynojet, 3rd gear, I have an RRM header. I am not saying that I didn't notice a difference with the header. I can definately chirp 2nd alot easier, got better throttle response and do feel a stronger pull through most of the rpm range. When racing I shift just before I hit the rev limiter, at like 6250 rpm. I don't shift into 4th until I hit the rev limiter in 3rd. But thats just to drop the rpm's. 3rd gear rev hits at 84mph, there is no need to shift to 4th because the time it takes to shift cancles out the torque you get at about 5000 rpm. I also beleive that other headers like rpw that have downpipes will give you another 1 or 2 peak whp.

When I had on some not so good tires I could get significant wheel spin in the wet. It only chirps in 2nd dry if you really hold high revs shifting 2nd.

I don't get it... Why do people go for bolt-on mods first? The bottle neck of the NA Lancer engine is definitely not from its ability to breath.

If your car won't bang gears straight up than give the wheel a little turn. I can get third cutting the wheel.

I personally feel that the bottleneck for "most" NA engines off of the factory floor would be the camshaft. In order to make power, you need more RPM but you don't find that in many factory engines. So in order to change that, you'll need to shift your valve timing/phasing/opening to the right of the curve and a more aggressive cam profile would do just that.

It's not until then, that you'll need to P&P your head, upgrade your intake, exhaust, and such...

Of course, that's strictly my opinion. Every person has his/her own reason for modifying his/her car and I am not going to come on here and tell you that you are "wrong" by doing such and such. From a performance perspective though, basic bolt-ons aren't cheap, don't give you much horsepower gain, but draws a hell lot of attention from cops...

I for one am thankful for your post. It looks to me as being nonbiased and just stating facts from your dyno results. You will always hear the 20hp claims from combo intake and exhaust mods but to me this is far from the truth. Most of these claims are decided by the BUTT-O-METER or magazine/manufacture claims. Thanks for the info.

these guys got good power from all the mods but they used a highflow cat vs. a test pipe just think if they used a header with all this plus flex pipe i bet they would have got 20 hp with the whole package
what was the temp. when you dyno'd and elivation
did you do more then one run

plus you still have the center section of your exhaust that is only 1 7/8 in. that is restrictive as **** here get this
http://www.mufflertech.com/htmlsite/...ils.asp?id=140
then you will have 2 1/4 all the way and itwill make a hug diff.
