On an NA four banger bolt ons really don't do much. Hell, bolt ons didn't do much for my Supra NA either, which is why I sold it so I can get a turbo Supra in the future. Bolt ons did nothing for my Civic either, except make it sound nicer, and lighten the load a little bit (the stock header weighs a ton, and the DC Sports one I got I could hold up with two fingers).
They definitely decreased back pressure and gave the throttle a little better responce, but I doubt I gained anything more than 5-10hp, and I paid an *** load for that stuff. The only thing that got better was gas mileage because the engine wasn't choked by the stock Cat anymore.
As for what's going to get you the best increase, it will be internals, forced induction, or timing. I got the RMR axle-back just because I wanted some nice sound. I'm going to get the test pipe because I want to get some better gas mileage. I'm going to get the ECU reflash because it give you very good gains and better gas mileage. Then in a year I'll probably have enough for the turbo kit, then pistons, rods, cams, P&P head, P&P IM, and the ported TB. Unless I sell the car first.
