It's true all racing isnt about drag racing... but if you think about it... our lancers can be fast... but it will take a considerable amount of money to make it run 12's.... and true there are other kids of races that require handles and turning and technique and stuff... but we're front wheel drive... it just seems like there are too many things holding us back... but never the less.... having a fixed up lancer... is better than having another civic with intake exhaust and body kit roaming the streets

I knew when I bought this car it isn't a drag strip car, even with a turbo. But it handles better than any of the V8 cars I've been in, especially with a little $ thrown into suspension mods. I love the feeling of going around turns with confidence that the lightweight family sedan will hold tight to them. And the price makes it even more worthwhile. Instead of spending tons of $ on gas, insurance and maintenance on a sportscar, I am getting the best bang for my buck!!!

your right....

your not kidding, the car i had before my oz was a 98 dodge dakota sport...with a v8 , now i love my lancer, i wouldn't trade it for anything! but that dak could wup some ***...i had no mods in it and i slapped this little civic hatchback whose license plate read "V8EATER" ....we're at the stop light and he starts revving his engine with his asian gf in the passenger seat...he takes off at a snail pace and i fly by...by the time he gets to the next red light he was pissed...so i did it again... his gf was about to leave with me

but the handling in the oz is soo much better than the truck, granted i am like a ft lower which i am still getting use too....but lancers rock! and will always be better than the ****vic

oh...yeah the only thing bad about it was the $100 bucks a month on gas...15-16 to fill now is soooo much better!!!

Smile my 2 cents......

Well to me its like this, the lancer was'nt made to go over 150 mph, or run 0-60 in under 6 seconds. This car is in its own right an great and fun car to drive but in the same token, a weaker, more cost efficient and more practical everyday driving car than its big bad Evo brother. So for me, i'll throw in the basics; exhaust, headers, intake and some springs but when its all said and done, i'll probably still get smoked by some schmuk in an integra. The car is great looking and I think the OZ's, ES's and LS's out there are better for some show and a lil go but get yourself an evo if you really need to go fast ( and can afford to do so).

Anyone considering trading in for the R32 GTI? I'm contemplating it since it will come loaded and quick stock with a V6. I was slummin' at VWVortex and saw a TT R32 that is running an easy 11.4 1/4th. That's wild.

Smile EVO Orgy

Mitsubishi 03,

This post is in response to your original question and some comments other people made about not really needing much more that 250hp.

I recently bought myself a copy of "Sport Compact" (the mag). Its the one with the secion on "EVO Orgy" where they compare a bunch of heavily modded EVOs.

Take a look at the hp the EVOs are putting out and then look at the 1/4 mile times. There is a HUGE variation, and in many cases, cars with significantly lower hp were posting better times.

I agree with some of the other guys - I think 200-250 hp is plenty. ESPECIALLY if you plan on driving it every day and not having a trailor queen

Just wanted to mention the VR-4's, I have a family member with a 97 3000GT (Vr-4) from the states - I mean it's a really cool car but the maintenance costs are so unbelievable - and also I think they are pretty over priced to this day. Plus they are heavy as hell - when I drive it I feel like I'm piloting a steam ship; subsequently the handling is also somewhat comparable....but in a straight line...just one tough of the pedal absolutely destroys my Lancer. ...onle last thing - Even tho they are supposedly identical cars, the Stealth has even WORSE handling; I drove one down the highway and was afraid to pass 120 KM/H! (still faster than my Lancer tho)...

And then there are the Canadians who can't get the Evo so... But I mean you want to go out and spend $55 K for an STi? Then go ahead, nice car. But keep the lancer until '06 when the Evo's will be in Canada then you can spend money on that bad boy.
