I have been considering Amsoil for a little while just not ready to switch I will let you know when I do. as for now it is just valvoline 5-30. Amsoil sight claims to have a pretty sweet oil filter. anybody know?

On the Bob's site I linked to previously, they have been performing oil filter bench flow comparison tests... I believe Amsoil was one of the filters tested... So far they are just trying to sort out the flow bench tester, to replicate hot oil... the link is on the home page, have fun reading through the nine pages of posts to see what they are doing, it's actually quite informative, and sometimes out there, as they have a few engineers helping out... those guys are on a whole other level.... Air filter comparisons too....
I personally haven't jumped on the Amsoil bandwagon just yet... it seems like everywhere I turn there is an Amsoil distributor talking about how everything else is horrible... even on their website they do a lot of bashing.... I'm not really into that, just advertise your product and move on... it's one thing to show a comparison graph, but to keep on and on about it is just ridiculous.... just my thoughts.... plus, Mobil1 is at every local Wal-Mart I've been too, and if not there, Napa, and it's cheaper.... Then there's the OEM factor... that's why I chose Mobil1.....
Read as many reviews as you can, you're on the right track... Keep an eye out, because a lot of the reviews on the net were posted by Amsoil distributors, and so they're biased in my opinion... independant tests are the best!! James

You have very good insight in the whole lubricating aspect. On a side note I had a 96 nisan pickup 4 cyl I drove that until january of this year. I changed the oil all myself except the first one was free from the dealer. I used the truck for doing local deliveries, so in about 6 years of driving I was pushing 180,000 miles. needless to say the truck never used oil and all I used was 10-30 valvoline.
The reason I let it go. A fork lift drove in to the back of my canopy and I couldnt lock that. Then last november some crack head broke into it and popped the door lock. I didnt think the truck was worth fixing so I got the lancer. Making an oil choice is simple yet complex all the info is great.

I guess another good question for synthetic users is do you really get better gas mileage. That is somthing that they say you "might" get 3%-15% those seem like pretty extreme claims.

Maybe a little mileage gain, although that was offset by my foot being in the throttle more.... I did my synthetic switch all at once (tranny just after the engine) and then went to a Napa Gold air filter, and was so happy with the increased performance, I can't keep my foot out of the gas... maybe my wife could come up with some numbers.....

Good filters:
Mobil 1
Amsoil
Pure One
Wix (also sold as "Napa Gold")

Good oil:
Mobil 1
Amsoil
Royal Purple

Personally, I change my oil every 2000 miles. Right now I'm running Mobile 1 5w30 (because it's cold out here) with a Pure One filter.

When it gets warmer and I'll be racing again, then I'll change it every 1000 miles, and run either Royal Purple or Amsoil with a Mobile 1 filter.

EDIT>>> Oh, and Amsoil has been producing and refining synthetic oil a lot longer than most have.

Strange, the Mitsu maintenance schedule has an oil change every 3,750 miles and a filter every other oil change.

Anyway, as for me I change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles using Valvoline 10w30 (Castrol is my alternate choice) and a Purolator Blue filter. I like to use only SAE approved products. Thinking about switching to K&N filter, though, but I'm happy with dino oil in my Lancer.

Cool please keep your updates coming.
Might be pretty cool if people started to log the date and all the other info every time the oil gets changed. you could use this thread as an electronic log that every body can view.
just an idea.
Have a good Thanksgiving.

I actually keep a log in my car, noting every oil change, tire rotation, service, etc. It lists the date, mileage, and description of maintenance.

I was hoping other members could use this as a reference or a losse guide line. higher mileage vehicles could start to list any oil consumtion or leaks that could happen down the line. I dont know perhaps I am a little off base.
It seems like lots of different oils are being used. This can be a very usefull tool.

Sounds like a good suggestion to me, although we don't have many Lancers at high mileage yet. I have 25k on mine. No oil consumption as of yet

Just ticked off 40k earlier today. Consumption is nil or low enough to where it's not noticeable and this is after a camshaft install where God knows what could've gone wrong there. It's actually time for an oil change now as well.
