Question Advise with Mods for my Lancer

Hey all. New here, so seeking advise from the experts on some mods Id like to do with my 2002 Lancer ES. Virtually everything is stock, save for hubcaps which I replaced first thing hated those stock rims lol. Anyway, Im not a super car savvy dude, so I was wondering what you guys think I should do to my ride. But heres some guidelines: Ive got a tight budget, haha. Im not looking to drop $1,000 to soupe it up. Thats why Im coming to you guys...I wanna know how I can do this by not spending too much money. Obviously Im not going the whole evo route. Besides I like to be more subtle anyway. So far, I got those cheap rims from K-Mart and Im putting some tint on soon. After that Im going for these black-housing headlights which is gonna ring a little less than $200. And then...Idk. Id like a spoiler but have yet to find one for the 02 Lancer es that I like so Im thinking get a custom one. And as far as internally Id like to increase the performance of my car, tho I understand it will only be a little with my limitted budget . So Im looking for your input. I was thinking of a new intake and/or new muffler. Id like one of those actually but dont want a super loud obnoxious one. Remember, trying to be more subtle. So lemme know, and please explain what your suggesting, why and how it works (as well as your estimation of $$) as I would like to be educated . Heres the areas I was leaning towards again:
- Spoiler - Muffler - Intake - and whatever you think -
So sit down, relax (maybe a little of this heh heh) and me out! Thanks a lot guys - Liam

You could get a K&N filter for your intake

Is your car stick?

I personally would wait on the "looks" of the car. id say keep it looking just like an ES and that will be subtle. id suggest intake, exhaust, etc. exhaust you can get done real cheap if you find a good shop. Got my entire custom exhaust done on my ralliart for 140ish. intakes can be found cheap.

I'd seriously do whatever YOU want. A great mod that you don't really like is not going to be that great in your mind, so just follow your interest.

Bang for the buck I'd look into exhaust, intake, and piggyback (you can find used versions of all of these for great savings on the forums). Looks can be improved too, but again watch the for sale threads. If you are serious about that budget, used parts are your best bet.

personal note:
Absolutely not trying to sway you one way or the other, but I will have a magnaflow cat-back exhaust up for sale in the next couple of days. It doesn't have a ton of miles on it and is not obnoxiously loud, just deep. PM me or just watch for the for sale thread.

Nope, automatic. I never practiced enough with manuel so I didnt feel comfortable buying one. Ive heard of the k&n intakes. What exactly is different about them?
P.S. Sorry for getting back a little late, thanks for replies!

Good advise. I always thought a little that way. So when it comes to looks, I think I'll handle everything. So I guess Im coming to you guys for mainly the internal stuff (also muffler which needs to have a good noise, I gotta like it, so that counts for show). But yeah Ive heard of piggyback, what does that do exactly? Also, you got a vid or something where I can hear it? Ive heard good things about magnaflow, so far like them.
Another thing I was thinking of and forgot to put in my original message was dropping my car. A friend had suggested it and at first I didnt like the idea but it grew on me and the Lancer ES seemed to have plenty of space between the wheel and wheel wells (or at least mine does) to lower it, so I would like to do that. Anybody know how much that could be? I only wanna drop it like an inch. I dont wanna be scraping the ground lol.

P.S. Shoulda multi-quoted sorry, lol didnt realize til second message. Still new haha .

Save that money and put it towards a turbo kit.

See, I cant do that like I said at the begining. I cant just drop $5,000+ for a turbo. Ive got other priorities, my car is just something I wanna have fun with but as an inexpensive hobby. Anyway, hey anybody know of a good auto shop in northern NJ??? Gotta figure out where Im gonna get everything installed...

No one said $5k. You can do it for under $2k... Most n/a mods are pointless, trust me, I've wasted my share of money.

Best things I would say besides that would be to get a set of coilovers, a rear sway bar, they really change the personality of the car for the better.

You can get a catback on ebay for like $200 brand new. As far as a shop, most of the installs on the car really are simple and a great learning experience.

Under $2,000? Thats a lot cheaper than what I heard. But it doesnt matter I still cant save for that so Im not even considering it. Well thats what Im here for, asking you guys what to do. Well, Im trying to install myself as much as I can but I dont have a lot of time and like I said not so car savvy tho I wish I was. And what will the catback do for it?

Oh alright. Still pretty good. Some guy on here said you could get it $200 new and I thought that was good. Better than my original impression. Well what about lowering my car? Anybody have any idea how much the shop would charge?
