Post Kiss the EVO goodbye

Well after todays announcment on the Montero, we may as well kiss the EVO (from Mitsubishi directly) goodbye for a while.
I think all the money they might have spent on bringing it here, will be gone on recall or lost sales.
What do you guys think?

Possible. The Suzuki Samurai fiasco definitely destroyed the sales of that...

I don't know about affecting any Evo plans they may have though...

Its possible since their a little strapped for cash after the one sexual harassment lawsuit, being caught covering up defect for 20yrs, recalling a huge chunk of their auto lineup, paying massive fines, spending money to design a fix for the Montero. They haven't had a good decade have they?

I am sure the money for recalls and payoffs come from another budget.

Basically Consumer Reports rated the Montero really bad, because they found it could roll at under 40 mph.

Here is the msnbc article http://www.msnbc.com/news/589920.asp

Wouldn't it be possible to use the EVO as a "rebound"? I mean they lose $$$ from the recall, but if they sold the EVO here, I highly doubt that there would be any sitting waiting to be sold. The extra cash made from the EVO would compensate the revenue lost from the recalls.

my $.02

They probably will on have a limited supply of EVO's. But even though not alot of people know about the car, I bet that each one would still be a guaranteed sale.

Mitsu plans on selling 65,000 Lancers. Multiply that number by about $15,000 average price and that = 975,000,000 GP. I think they will be OK. Also its just a consumer group that is saying its an unsafe truck and not the Gov. Most people will still buy it if they think it looks cool.

i think mitsubishi will be fine, and they would definitely sell each and every EVO, but their estimates for lancer sales may be somewhat optimistic. let's face it, the oz edition is not a performance model like the rs was for subaru. so they're left trying to gain a share of the honda civic market (the "Jennifer" market is what car&driver called it), which is easier said than done.

there's no way they'd sell enough EVOs to cover their losses. if you think about it, the EVO is a niche car. only a small percentage of the general American population even knows what an EVO is. if mitsubishi did bring it over, it'd be in limited amounts, probably 1000 a year.

The EVO should be alright. They wouldn't dare let their flagship car get axed. In the US that may be a different story.

I dunno, the whole company is getting shady all of a sudden. They've always been shady, cool cars, but shady practices

mitsubishi wont bring the evo to the us!main reason is that they dont actully produce it, ralli art does though mits..****ed up, i know. theres only 4000 units total produced a year. 2000 LHD AND 2000 RHD about 400 cars of each are sold as race cars only to the factory and indepent race teams..Mitsubushi would have to build a plant and mass produce the evos..then it come into play that the evo would have to cost more than eclipes and 3000gt(mits sports cars) since it out proforms them by far..and to metion that the new replacment of the mirage, the(lancer) is the same base chassie and could very well cause insurance to go up on econo people who bought the car to keep cost down.. ford went through this in 89 when they made the SHO, all the family car people got stuck paying insurance for a sports car,-suxs when you have a car that does 0-60 in 4 days...
