Anywhere between $29K and $35K with a REAL power rating at the flywheel of 276 or so HP as opposed to the JDM model with an estimated REAL power rating of 300+ HP. Also don't expect more than 2000 cars to come to the US because the Evo is NOT a mass produced vehicle.

A quote from Jun Asami, Director of Product Planning in the US, in the November issue of Sports Car International :
This car is not intended for mass consumption. It's our halo vehicle, an icon for Mitsubishi.
When asked if they would consider watering down the US spec car as Subaru did, he said:
We'd like to bring it over in as original condition as possible.

will667, is that just an educated guess or you have a reliable source?

I'm really wondering if I should save the money I have now and get the Evo when it comes over, or just spend it on a car right now.
What do you drive now, and would you be mad if it came over and you missed out on it because you were impatient?

Lan Evo,

This is just a guess based on all of the info I've read over the past 6 months.

Competition for WRX, No STI until 2003, Mitsu will want the car to be better than the WRX for the same price.

Don't hold your breathe on getting an Evo because just like the SeR and the Mazda Mp3 the majority are sold before they hit the showroom floor. Put in your order now, and expect to pay at least 2000.00 above MSRP

The evo is going against the wrx sti not the wrx so I will guess 260-275 hp and $30K base and $35K with all options. With all options the current wrx goes over the $30K mark easily.

hakaida,

I don't think the STI is coming out in a year. Subaru is doing fine with the WRX. It doesn't make sense for them, they already have a good product and it's only been out for 7 months. Maybe they'll give it a little more HP, or a facelift (for God sake).

What does make sense is Mitsu countering Subie with a similar model that's competitively priced and slightly better performance.

IF the evo is similar and price and power then mitsubishi will get caught with their pants down when the sti is released. im guessing the sti will come next year as a 2003 model just like how the current wrx is a 2002 model. The ACD and AYC units that the evo has is much more expensive to produce along with bigger rims and brakes than the wrx. I wish the evo will be close to the wrx in price but I just dont see it happening.

It's really anyones guess what will happen. It could go either way.

Mitsu doesn't have to go with the more expensive drivetrain, brakes or wheels though.

Talked to a salesguy and says it is coming but of course no word on when, price, or specs. Dealer also wouldn't take a deposit until it is officially announced. He did say it will be expensive because they have been informed that will not be very many and demand will be high. Of course this is from a salesman so I am not saying this is 100% accurate info.
