RRM Piggyback ECU Review (merged)
WADAD, I might be the one you're talking about. Yeah I opened it up straight away, but after that I have driven normally. The only reason I really got into it was to confirm appropriate and correct installation. As I didn't experience any rev changes outside of normal, and the car never felt as if it was going to stall like in the instructions, and from lively's account. I double checked everything first and just wanted to make sure that it wasn't F*d up.
I'm also using 93oct. It's a matter af self control staying out of the throttle, though.

Well after two people's accounts I think I might try to reset the ECU today while I'm at work and start all over again. The car didn't rev up high when I started it up, so maybe the ECU didn't reset correctly. Who knows, maybe it's the cold weather that's making things difficult. We'll see.

Oh, and I live in Ohio. Not exactly warm at an avg. of 26 this week.
Rob and I resolved the issue of the first run of PBs. He called me and I sent the original back to him, and they sent me a different one that was supposed to not have the problem. Maybe this one still has the problem. I'm going to reset the ECU again and go through the process once again. I'll disconnect it after lunch, then 20 minutes before I leave I'll start up the car and let it idle, then I have a 30 minute drive home and I'll take surface streets so I can get some variation in RPMs, not pushing it of course. Then we'll see what happens. If this problem is not resolved maybe Rob will have to send me another one.
I stopped at a drive through ATm today from work. Hold up Livelyjay...
The car idled fine but then before I was about to leave it went into a few idle loops like you described. I still haven't opened it up but tomorrow will probably be the day. Then again I have barely driven 30 miles since installation. I might want to wait until I get more than that.
Car runs fine though.

Well I put a full 300 miles on mine and I still had the problem. I pulled the negative terminal off my battery right after lunch, so the 4 hours should be enough to reset the ECU. around 4:40 I'm going to put it back on, let the car idle, then I'm leaving around 5:00. The drive back on surface streets will take around 30 minutes, so it should be enough to get the ECU fuel maps reconfigured. We'll see though.
Installed mine today. I followed all the steps everything was fine until I turned it off and restarted it a couple of minutes later. 10 seconds into it, my CEL comes on. RRM says it should go off after the learning time. Anyone else have this??
My Review of the Road///Race Piggyback ECU
First off, thanks to SpyderVenm for getting me this at a good deal.
Ok heres what went on:
I went to his house to get the ECU and he offered to install it. So he soldered the wires and connected the vacuum hose etc. 20 min install.
Then we started it up (at this point i was running 1/2 tank of 89 octane) so I let it idle for a while and it was a little jumpy and wanted to stall which was normal, then after 10 minutes we took it for a drive around town keeping it under 3k (most of the time)
After 10 minutes we gunned it, but didnt feel much of a difference then, but not sure why
The next day i filled it with 91 octane and rode around under 3k for about 50 more miles and when i came home I accidently stalled the car when i was going in reverse cause I thought I was in neutral. Anyways it took like 5 tries to start the car cause it kept on stalling 1 second after starting, then it went and i let it sit for 10 min.
After about 3 hours of it being off I took it for a little drive.
I went down a road which was pretty flat and I actually did feel a difference. It felt like it picked up more in 1st, but when going into 2nd it felt like it was losing power at lower rpms, but picked up again at the end and all the way through 3rd and 4th.
This was about the time i saw that one guy in his red evo, i think his name is "error" on this board. Anyways he didnt feel like showing his car off I guess, so I just drove normally, then we turned separate ways and gunned it and MAN it feels way better now for some reason. It actually feels like I gained more at the powerband and somehow it actually sounds better. I dont know if it actually does or if its just me, but anyways I'm loving it right now.
It seems like everytime I take it hard it feels faster and faster and hopefully I'm not at the peak yet. Ill be racing my friend probably tomorrow or friday to see how much of a gain we're talking here.
Well theres some free advertising for RRM, but they do deserve it and I would recommend this to anyone.
Oh also the only mod I have is AEM intake so far.

I am not going to review anything else until next week. One weeks worth should be enough to break things in. The car does run nice and smooth for regular driving.
I'll give my own full review next week.
