all ff drifting is brake contollled... be it entering a turn at a high speed hittin the brakes and sliding(high speeds) or pullin the ebrake in a sharp turn(lower speeds, the higher speeds are not needed)... but other forms of drifting is a lot harder if not impossible i think

For the record, I drift every time I go autocrossing. And it doesn't have to be brake induced, you can start the turn first and then let the rear end start sliding (if the suspension is set up correctly) or let off the gas to get the rear and around. Then you just countersteer or point in the direction you want to end up in. Anyway, there's a whole heated discussion in the driving techniques section if you want to read it.

The main point of my post is that Road///Race is in the process of making a rear strut bar!!! I should have more details soon, as I have been discussing this piece with him for a while, and he has shown me some of his work lately.

Wow, I thought Rock was pretty anti-rear-strut-bar. A concession to the autoxers?

I think Rob has recognized at least 2 things:

1) A rear strut bar stiffens the rear end and can be one of the components to help gain oversteer in lowered Lancers. I seem to be getting enough with a rear sway bar, tie bar, dampening, and front camber. But I plan on playing around with combinations soon.

2) Half of the people on these forums don't car what it does, as long as it looks cool. I mean, people bought the front strut bar before the sway bar because it looked flashier, even though the practical path is sway bar first, then strut bar.

Well, I bought the front strut bar first because I got it on the cheap... but I know what you mean. Money talks.

Urban- where exactly did you put the rear tie bar, and what are they supposed to help with? I mean, I know they're supposed to help keep the rear control arms from wiggling around, but aside form than I'm pretty ignorant of their function....

Shamelessly lifted from Urb's registry:

I believe it's just another piece to tighten up the rear and promote oversteer.

im still deciding if I want to get this..it's cheaper than the swaybar + perches, plus it seems to do a good job of creating some oversteer.

if we compared the RRM swaybar and the rear strut bar, which one would be most effective in creating oversteer? the answer is probably the swaybar but i just want to make sure.

another opinionative question, do you think the rear strut bar would be a good addition to my suspension mods (falken azenis tires + front k-bar), or am i better off with the swaybar? i dont want to spend money tho..what do u guys think?

yea, it's just the cost issue and ease of installation..and i mean if they basically both do the same job (granted one does it better than the other), i'd just go with the rear strut bar.

but u know what i noticed from your post Guru? I'm a really stubborn person lol. even after your post, my mind was set on the rear strut bar lol.

I drove with my strut brace and had my sway bar off for a couple days. I noticed more of a difference with just the strut brace than I did with just the sway bar. Putting both on made slightly more difference than either alone.

When I have them in stock, mine are $50 plus ship. I won't have any more until I'm done moving, and have settled in, (bought a house) but PM me to see when they become available. I think I'll just need another week. They look better than the above pic- I take the time to paint them That one was just the prototype.

bingo! it tightens the rear end. And yes, the sway bar would be the first step, and then the strut and tie bars compliment the sway bar. If anyone is thinking about getting a tie bar, wait a little and see what RRM is cooking up. If you want a rear strut bar, I plan on putting the RRM one on my car this weekend and will let everyone know what I think.
