Vibrations at/around air filter (2003 ES Lancer)
Hello everyone, I have a 2003 2.0L ES Lancer. I am trying to narrow down the following issue.
When I place the car in Drive and hold the break (something that naturally happens at a red light). I can hear slight vibrating noises.
I popped the hood and had someone sit with their foot on the break while I listened and it sounds like the noise is coming from around the air filter area. If I add slight pressure to the air filter box the vibrating noise stops, and I mean like 1 finger slightly pressing on the top or corner of it. The screws holding down the air filter box seem to be as tight as they go, the only thing I can think of is when I look inside of the air filter box, there is a plastic rod sticking through a hole in the bottom (to hold the box in place I guess?), should there be a rubber ring around that plastic rod? If so, mine doesnt have one and maybe its the rod hitting against the edges of the hole that it goes through?
Anyways, anyone run into this issue? What could it be? What should I try or look at?
PS - I am not a car guy, so please go easy on me with terminology
Thanks!

All of the mounting points should have rubber donuts on them.... whether for the two screws or the post. I don't know if you can get the one for the post without buying the air box though unless it is the same as the screw ones.
Either way, if you have one of the mounts with no cushion, that junks going to be noisy.

The plastic post I am talking about though is not screwed on, the box just sits on it. the only way to see it is to take out the filter and look in to the crack.
I know, that's why I said you wouldn't have much luck asking in an Evo forum.
In the picture I posted you can see half of the rubber donut tucked into that box. On our cars there is a post that slides through the donut in that location. Yours will be similar with exception for the different box design. 3 donuts, two on bolts on on the hole that the post goes through. They are all like that, I just don't have a Lancer picture handy.

Hope I can order one somewhere.... :/
PS - sorry about posting in Evo forum. To be honest I didnt really know the differences between Lancer and Evo until just now googling it. I thought that Evo had mostly same parts, just alloy wheels, wing and bigger engine... but I can see now that I was completely wrong, they might as well be different cars from what i am reading. (Like I said I am not a car guy :P ) Nonetheless thank you very much for helping! I dont know if there really is a non evo (just lancer) forum out there where I would be able to get help
Now I just need to find out how I can get a replacement donut ring thingie...

and yeah, they fall out. The one on my daily driver is so jacked up from the air box going in and out the last 130k or so it wants to push out every time I put the box in. I really should replace it. On Evos (as you can see) it is not as simple as on yours. You have to work blind fumbling with it if the donut is in crappy shape.
